Trump is wrong in this assessment; while "Black Hole" Lemon*--a reference to his uber-stupid musing about the missing-jetliner, not his ethnicity--is pretty darned dumb alright, Lemon's clearly the mental SUPERIOR of both Andy Cohen and Steve Harvey, to cite but two nattering network nitwits whom certain elements of the TV viewing public apparently can't get enough of. Like, uh, I guess, y'know, like, uh, nome sane?

Don't konw about Cohen, but this seems a little harsh on Steve Harvey,
who doesn't strike me as a stupid man. He's certainly capable of a
quick witticism, which ain't nothing.

However, for Trump to ignore the entire panel of "The View" in his
assessment is a pretty shocking omission. Lemon is dumb, but he's not
Joy Behar dumb. He's not within an order of magnitude of being within
Whoopi Goldberg dumb.

Well, you're certainly correct, J.D., in your contention that to be any good at stand-up comedy, one needs serious smarts, and Harvey DID have considerable success in that realm before he, uh, transitioned into hosting. (Though I don't know how well his in-yo-face-mutha! variety of schtick wears on mainstream audiences; his circuit always attracted few white fans as far as I can tell.)

Now, Harvey IS a onetime cop, and that at least theoretically requires some overall understanding of the law, so there's GOTTA be some cerebral things going on in that shaved skull, no? But hey, since darned near EVERY joke Harvey comes up with on Family Feud (or while beauty-pageant hosting, where Harvey struggles to correctly read those text-sparse winner cue-cards prepared for him to hold) is either (1) sexually vulgar or (2) downright obscene potty material, I will admit that I generally change the channel before Harvey gets any further chance to demonstrate his cleverness with a comeback..

Granted, I never had NEAR the success in stand-up out in Hollywood that Harvey enjoyed--never WANTED it really, as my aspirations were always in AM newstalk call-in radio hosting--but I'm proud that all of my stage work as open-night MC at The Laugh Factory 1987-89 was family-crowd clean...even though I was bringing on acts which too often amounted to little more than three tortured minutes of F-, S- and MF-words. (But NEVER a certain N-word, if it was a white comic--something the very-experienced Michael Richards should have realized before he infamously came onto that very Laugh Factory stage one disastrous, audience-videoed night.)

I loved meeting all kinds of big comedy stars in that gig at The Factory, but alas, never the late Henny Youngman; he might have walked in unexpectedly any night--as did so many stand-up veterans and Hollywood luminaries--for he didn't die until February 1998.

But HAD I been lucky enough to ever encounter the violin-toting funnyman Youngman, I've always imagined this is the professional advice he would have doled out: "Never work blue, Kid--you don't HAVE to." (And I would have responded, "Nor do I even WANT to, Mr. Youngman.")

Fair point. Details. And even leaving aside that category error,
"The View" really ought to be in its own category, not comparable to
