30-fold improvement in thermoelectric performance of
tin selenide demonstrated.

Insertion of tellurium ions into the SnSe matrix greatly
improves performance but previous techniques could not
insert nearly enough tellurium due to a size-mismatch
in the ions. This new approach allows incorporating a
lot more Te and a huge performance gain results.

Vast quantities of energy go to waste as low-grade
heat. If a respectable proportion of this heat can be
used to generate electricity overall energy efficiency
skyrockets.

Tin Selenide is CHEAP CHEAP. The trick was boosting its
thermoelectric efficiency. Now there seems to be a path.
Sheets of this stuff could line every TV, every oven
exhaust, every chimney - and there are locales where
thermoelectrics might outperform PVs.

No, we are STILL going to need lots and lots of petroleum
(and even coal) for a LONG time. However there ARE ways
to keep cutting back on that. This is one. As technology
progresses so does our overall energy efficiency.
