Everybody thinks of Russia in terms of petrochemicals,
but it's also a huge storehouse of valuable minerals -
including those needed to make modern quality steels.

Russia is also the #3 producer of aluminum in the world,
but that's less of an issue because China is #1 and makes
ten times as much - indeed twice as much as the next nine
combined. What happens after Taiwan, do we cut off Chinese
aluminum ? CAN we ???

In any case, european car makers - and it doesn't matter
if they're gas, diesel, NG or electric - are finding
themselves in a real situation here. Make them out of
plastic ? Where do you think plastic comes from ? Oil
and NG ! Hey, there's always wood bodies, or bamboo if
you're in good with asia. I seem to recall China making
a bamboo-body version of a DC-3 during WW2 :-)

Oh, and where does most of the rare earths needed to make
those motors for electric cars come from ? China !
