If this "it" were a Trump supporter it'd be sentenced to life.

Thanks for the update. These results are actually pretty typical these days, especially if they didn't have a police record. It's just another version of tag and release. Everyone knows that if they continue to miss behave they will catch them again, eventually. They get a lot of repeat business, and everyone gets to know the regulars. It's expensive to lock people up. So most places avoid it as much as possible.

This guy misbehaved and he did get caught again. Too bad it was too
late. But we spared the expense of keeping his murdering ass locked up
so there is that. Tell the victims' families it was too expensive.

Face it, liberalism is going to be the death knell for this country if
you lefties don't stop defending the indefensible, denying the obvious
and come to what little senses you have.

I only have one vote. We have ALL decided what is too expensive. The money isn't there. Absolutely no one is willing to spend the sort of money it would take to lock up everyone who deserves it. Talk to a jailor or two. No one likes the revolving door, but they don't have enough money to do anything about it.

When I left the priz biz, the cost was about $1600 per month, to house a convict, living in a dorm setting... Of course, that was over 20 years ago.....

Well damn. That's only about $95/day in today's money, and a room in
an Eastman motel tonight is about $92, and there're no guards to pay
or 3 meals a day. Sounds pretty cheap.

It was pretty cheap. They're spending a bit more than that now.

"It costs an average of about $106,000 per year to incarcerate an inmate in prison in California.

About three-quarters of these costs are for security and inmate health care..

Since 2010-11, the average annual cost has increased by about $57,000 or about 117 percent. This includes an increase of $20,800 for security and $19,000 for inmate health care. Significant drivers of this increase in costs were employee compensation and activation of a new health care facility. In addition, the coronavirus 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic also contributed to higher costs in 2021-22."

That's a fun link because they breakdown where the money goes..

Over 20 years ago, prison guards were paid $3400 per month... Now, they're 6K per mo...
Then, IIRC, 18% were illegals, and the prison pop was 160,000, with 180K on parole...

$3400 23 years ago is the same as about $6000 now. As far as pay goes,
they've been literally standing still.

You only saw part of the cost. We spent a lot of money to send them to your dorms and more to supervise them after they got out. It would be cheaper to send them to college. I met a guy who learned to run a fancy high speed printing press while he was in prison. He was making very good wages, right out of prison. Until he went back to prison.

"State governments spent a combined $55 billion on corrections in 2020, with most of the spending going toward operating state-run prisons. There were more than 1.2 million people in prison[1] in 2020, according to data from the Bureau of Justice Statistics.

Spending per prisoner varies widely across states, from about $18,000 per prisoner in Mississippi to $135,978 per prisoner in Wyoming in 2020. States spent an average of $45,771 per prisoner for the year.

Money allocated to corrections departments in each state primarily goes toward prison operations and paying correctional officers. Some states may also fund additional rehabilitation programs, drug treatment centers, and juvenile justice initiatives through these state agencies."

https://usafacts.org/articles/how-much-do-states-spend-on-prisons/

Most folks never make it to the big house. We have even more people cycling through our jails. Which also are not cheap to operate.
