Lord Baltimore's namesake city has lost its most beloved local hero...on the same day [yesterday, Tuesday, September 26, 2023] when local authorities there were still looking for a murderous, career-felon* on the loose.

Baseball fans made such a BIG deal back in the mid-'60s when that OTHER Robinson--that would be the late Frank--was traded by The Reds [ne' The Redlegs during the darkest days of The Cold War!] in the NL, and THAT Robinson made it big indeed in the AL (eventually making MLB history by being the first [and still ONLY?] player to be MVP in BOTH major leagues).

And soon enough, those not-in-the-least-twin Robinsons led the former St. Louis Browns into a LONG run as an American League powerhouse.

But as impressive as OUTFIELDER Robinson so frequently was, he was nowhere NEAR the on-field delight to behold as was the day-in-day-out dazzling play at third base that third-baseman Robinson delivered over so many glorious Orioles summers.

By any standard, this LATER late Robinson was a no-brainer for Cooperstown; thanks for all the marvelous memories through the years commanding The Corner for the Orioles, Sir Brooks!

Whilst ruminating on what can be done about this darned Thai-posting e-terrorist, I've been thinking back through my baseball-watching from the late '50s through the entirety of the '60s, '70s, 80s and 90s--haven't watched nearly as much MLB thus far this century--and trying to remember ANY third-baseman who recurrently amazed me as much as Brooks Robinson's play at The Corner.

And recollect as I might, I simply can't recall a SINGLE other third-baseman was was even NEARLY in Robinson's class, much less surpassing him!

Still, my MLB familiarity is admittedly limited--plus, growing up in St. Louis after the St. Louis Brown franchise's desertion of The Gateway City after my birth-year 1954, over the decades I naturally watched (in person in the Busch Memorial Stadium stands or merely on TV) decidedly less American League play than I did that of the comparatively-less colorful National League.

So: can ANYONE herein cite ANY other third-baseman who was even HALF the fielding wizard that Robinson was over so many seasons in Baltimore's storied (AND architecturally lovely) Memorial Stadium* ? And EVEN IF YOU CAN name other comparable third-basemen elsewhere in MLB, were they even HALF the reliable and muscular bat-man ("power hitter' or otherwise), that Robinson ALSO was throughout his remarkable career?

Anxious to hear all of y'all's get-real-Styble-this-guy-was-JUST-as-great! names.

Given all the serious MLB followers among the alt-obits community--I'm just a mere bleachers bum, by comparison--I'm amazed no one else has as yet noted Hall of Famer Robinson's sad demise! (Or its that hyperactive Thai e-bot dissuading everyone from posting until the spam has subsided? (Assuming it ever DOES peter out, of course.)
