(with photo of Lindblom in a deep-sea diving suit)

Warner, NH - Steven Winther Lindblom was born in Minneapolis, MN in 1946 and soon moved to North Haven, CT. He spent much of his youth traveling with family and lived in England, France, Switzerland, India, and California. In 1962, Steve was Connecticut State Junior Bicycling Champion.

Steve attended St. John's College in Maryland and then transferred to Rhode Island School of Design, where he met his life partner, True Kelley. After graduation, they worked as children's book authors and illustrators in Boston. Many books that Steve wrote and illustrated were award winning. Steve and True built a home in Hampton Falls, NH. In 1983, their daughter Jada was born. They moved to a "solar gothic" house that Steve designed and built in Warner.

Steve had great affection for Warner and was active in the community. Steve learned to fly airplanes and invented and manufactured an aviation repair tool while also freelance writing on aviation topics. He rediscovered a fascination with scuba diving and wrote and published several books on advanced diving through his company Airspeed Press. Steve's manual, The Oxygen Hacker's Companion, is considered a classic of the diving world.

Steve was perhaps best known for his sense of humor, clever creativity, and vast knowledgeability. His favorite pastimes included rowing his Alden ocean shell, working on large rusty things like his Ford 8N, reading, hiking, practicing Tai Chi, and enjoying good seafood and pastries. From touring Europe in 1970 on a 1952 Vincent motorcycle to camping in the Caribbean, Steve and True shared a lifelong love of travel.

Steve passed away on May 4th, 2023 in Concord, NH from cancer and Lewy Body Dementia...

Excerpts:

7/16/23
Steve introduced me to Dave Van Ronk (1964) and absinthe (homemade), more recently.

8/03/23
Steve wrote a book for kids about engines. After I read it, he asked me if I got the joke on page ##.
I looked and didn't get it.
