One of the complaints I read was that the cartoon depicted exaggerated
facial features, as if every political cartoon ever drawn before this one
didn't.

Much respect and even appreciate your critique, Adam--even to the point of re-reading the referenced story to see what it is that I missed in my declaration that the cartoon in question lampooned Hamas policy, not the portrayed terrorist's ethnicity.

Nonetheless I'm afraid I couldn't figure out what you noted yet I missed therein; kindly delineate.

MEANWHILE:

I'm quite familiar (as are so many of y'all) with the talented Michael Ramirez's detail-rich drawing style, and I must say, this cartoon does not in the LEAST reflect that style!

Indeed, its visual style appears QUITE similar--even IDENTICAL--to that roughhewn style of another right-of-center cartoonist, Chip Bok. (Not sure which news service Bok cartoons for, but his incisive work often is re-published on Townhall's cartoon site.)

Thanks in advnce to anyone else herein puzzled by this cartoonist dissonance.

Caricature is the stock and trade of an editorial cartoonist. I'm
shocked that reporters don't know this and just saw racist intent.

I don't think I commented on anything you wrote. A Friend blamed weekend
staff but the decision, choosing the cartoon, then removing it from the
Web site, was made by the opinion editor himself.
