I keep (occasionally) hearing quite-possibly-UNreliable rumors that the 86-year-old Nicholson's reduced public visibility in recents last years is due to his suffering early-stage (or even late-?) cognitive decline.

Anyone actually KNOW if there's truth to any of this? (Wiki's entry adds little or nothing to the question.)

For my own absolutely inconsequential part, I just hope it's all nonsense....as one of the true titans of the 1960-80s American culture might have some memorable, important character-actor roles still in store for his closing years (just as the long-declining Brando proved with his wonderful career-capping turn in "The Freshman").

Oh, and regarding the late Brando in "The Freshman".

Another minority-of-one viewpoint of mine is that Brando's ever-mumbling and sclerotic work in "The Godfather" was SPECTACULARLY overrated. (Indeed, I was so put off by that disappointing-to-me "blockbuster"--the unrelenting brownish tone of the film stock they used was in and of itself enough to make the film visually repellant--that to this date I've never bothered to screen either "Part II" or "Part III" (uber-dumb nomenclature for sequels ANYWAY; even "The Godfather's Legacy" or "The Godfather Extended" would have been not-quite-so-stupid titles).

But when Brando MADE FUN of his wildly-over-celebrated "Godfather" work in "The Freshman"...well, with THAT often-amusing film he wonderfully affirmed that the quintessential Method actor could also deftly tackle light comedy..

And re II and/or III: On the solid principle one should never try to improve on (supposed) excellence (which, again, the initial "Godfather" was far from), I've long been intellectually opposed to all sequels ANYWAY; I mean, to cite a particularly outrageous recent example, remaking "Ocean's 11" [paraphrasing 1988-debate Bentsen re Quayle]: Clooney, you're no Sinatra.

I heard 25 years ago he was getting his lines pumped into an earpiece and then because he had hearing damage, it was loud which caused a bit of bleedthrough that had to be dealt with.

There are a couple of moments where you can (maybe) see him glance at

I was talking about Jack Nicholson and I think the movie was Wolf, which is 30 years old.

Yeah, I don't recall Nicholson being in any of the Godfather movies.
