Nikolai Ryzhkov,the Chairman of the Council of Ministers of the Union
of Soviet Socialist Republics (Premier of the Soviet Union for short)
from 1985 to 1991,born September 28th 1929,died February 28th 2024
according to various sources...he was the last surviving Soviet leader
of such prominence.

He had retired in September after 20 years as a Senator of the Russian
Federation,having been defeated by Boris Yeltsin in the 1991 presidential
election.

at least as tall as before...or terror has triumphed.

Well,he had Ryzhkov serve as a senator for the last 20 years,so I don't
think he saw him as a threat...in 1985,when Ryzhkov became Premier,
Gorbachev had just become General Secretary and Gromyko President of
the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet,while Putin was a minor KGB field
officer.

Un terms of military desperation,I was wondering if the draft for
service in Ukraine would ever be extended to men of Ryzhkov's age
(he represented an oblast adjacent to Ukraine) but I suppose that
by dying he has dodged this.
