On this day I did not watch football. Did look in on the Atlanta
Falcons game only to see them being stomped by New Orleans so I didn't
watch more than a minute or two.

What I did watch (or rewatch) the SPIDERMAN - ACROSS THE SPIDER-VERSE
as I was just in the mood for a great movie. Can't wait for the second
(finale) part to show up. Well worth a watch if you have not watched
it already.

What did you watch?

WE ARE THE 80'S

WHY PLANES FLY OVER THE NORTH POLE BUT NOT THE SOUTH POLE:
https://youtu.be/SCQhIWsQJsI?si=-mGfevFti67VZb4E

GRIMBERG:
"Pilot". Detective Marvin Flute returns to his hometown of Grimsburg to solve
a crime that has the whole town caught in its web and figure out how to prove
himself to his ex-wife and son.
I wanted to like it but the funniest bits (and only the funniest) were in the
commercials. Thewy went way too far with the whacky side chats, like the
cyborg partner and the ex-wife raised by bears.

KRAPOPOLIS:
"Buy Low, Sell Ty". With Tyrannis' support, Hippocampus wins first prize for
his invention at Hephaestus-Con, only to learn that Hephaestus selected him
for his looks, not his intellect.
The episode description was nothing like what happened, which was Tyrannis
inventing (or rather, stealing an Athenian's invention) money and then
introducing inflation and other side effects. I liked this one a lot but
wondered how Athena would let what happened to her city transpire.

RICK AND MORTY:
"That's Amorte". Rick and Morty venture into Earth-like planet 41-Kepler-B to
solve spaghetti problems.
Loved how the second word of the title is a pun for "death" and hearing
Summer asking for "par-MEE-see-on". Oh yeah, the Soylent Green allusion on
the canned space-spaghetti was pretty clever, too. I was a bit surprised Rick
didn't serve veal instead of Salisberry steak.

RICK AND MORTY:
"Unmortricken". Rick is destined to find Rick Prime, when an unexpected
person comes to help out.
Well, that was... interesting, but I've forgotten a lot of what happened, so
I was a bit confused by the apparent callbacks I was sppsd to recognise.

I watched:

The Holdovers (Peacock) New drama starring Paul Giamatti as a teacher at
a boys boarding school for rich kids in the 70s. He has to stay during
Christmas break to look after a few kids with no place to go and
unexpectedly bonds with one of them. I watched mainly because it was
nominated for a Golden Globe for best picture and actor for Giamatti,
and I wanted to see it before the awards aired. It was OK I guess, but
I didn't detect any real acting from Giamatti. His character in this
movie was virtually indistinguishable from his character in Billions.
That being said, he won the Golden Globe so I'm glad I watched this
before the show so I could at least have an informed opinion on his acting.

May December (Netflix) New drama starring Natalie Portman as an actress
who shadows a former teacher played by Julianne Moore who was convicted
of sleeping with her 7th grade student, whom she later married (Charles
Melton). I watched mainly because it was nominated for a Golden Globe
for best picture and acting, and I wanted to see it before the awards aired.

Nyad (Netflix) New biopic starring Annette Bening as a woman who tried
to swim from Cuba to Florida. Or more accurately I should say an
obsessed old woman with a death wish and the friends who enable her. I
had time for one more Golden Globe nominated movie before the show.
None of the movies I wanted to watch were available to stream for free,
so I settled between two movies I didn't want to watch, and this one
won. Although watching this was helpful since of the 6 actress
nominated for best actress I had only watched two of their movies. This
upped it to half of the nominated actresses.

The Golden Globes - The first category up was best supporting actress in
a motion picture. I happened to have watched all 6 nominated movies, 3
of which I watched right before the award show. Overall, I have no
major complaints with the show. And it was helpful that I did a last
minute Golden Globe movie watch before the show aired.

I can't watch it! It's on The Netflix, which *no one* gets!! :p

> What did you watch?

Nothing, really - it took twice as long to drive over the mountains as
usual because of a storm on Saturday. So I missed my flight, and my
later flight was delayed 2 hours. I only saw snippets of football. And
there was nothing on when I got home (late!) last night.

Today, I am planning on giving the Blu-ray player a go with a 4k flick,
and some testing of regular DVDs to see it it's any better with those
than my old (ancient!) DVD player.

FYI for when you get to season 3, "It's a Good Life" has a sequel from
the 2002 Twilight Zone series called "It's Still a Good Life" and "To
Serve Man" has a sequel from the 2019 series, but it's a bit of a spoiler.

I recall William Mumy talking about that "Good Life" sequel in some
interview some years ago. As for the later incarnations of Twilight
Zone I haven't been recording them because they haven't been re-run
recently AFAIK.

Hey, this is the exact same plot as that Christmas Wish movie I just
watched with Erica Cerra! The male lead in that did absolutely no acting
whatsoever as well. And Erica did not get naked or put on an Italian
accent, or unleash her fangs at any time. Very disappointing.

His real life daughter played his daughter in the sequel. And Cloris
Leachman who was in the original episode also reprises her role.

Don't/can't stream. _MAYBE_ I'll consider streaming in a few months
when I get fiber-optic to my building but I've got enough discs and
ripped Netflix discs for longer than what is probably my expected life
span at this point.

Is this the same Bill Mumy who was Delenn's sidekick on Babylon 5
roughly 20 years ago?

(If so that would explain why I haven't seen him doing much these
days...)

You probably did.

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0734588/

The credited writer, Charles Beaumont, was very ill toward the end of
his life, and his writer friends secretly worked under his name in
order to keep up his Writers Guild health insurance. I wish I could
remember who actually wrote this episode, except to say that it was
more than one person. In recent years, some of the awards Beaumont
(who died in 1967) got for their work have been reassigned to the
actual writers.
