US wheat crop hurt by dry winter and spring's heavy
rain The U.N. said that Russia-Ukraine war's impact
on grains, oils, fuel and fertilizer could force
millions of people into famine

.. . .

A very dry winter, followed by heavy spring rains,
has led to the projection that the US wheat crop
will be consideribly less than usual this year.
The USA exports a LOT of grain. Ukraine used to
export a LOT of grain too - but not now.

This double-whammy can easily lead to severe basic
food shortages in many areas of the world, including
Africa and parts of the middle east - both are
politically volatile regions. I have no data about
Indian food supplies, but we know the India/Pakistan
region started off the spring with absolutely
suffocating heat waves and that's likely to affect
local production.

Affected nations may try to go around the usual
farmer->middleman->middleman->middleman->retailer
systems common in producing countries, offer to
pay the farmers or 1st-level middlemen far more
money than they're used to getting. The upshot is
that far less US grain actually makes it to yer
local grocers shelves. In africa, Uganda and Ghana,
themselves big producers, have already banned grain
exports fearing just such looting by countries that
are dependent on Ukrainian and/or US-Canadian grains.

For decades we've heard the "Feed The World" movement
urge the USA/Canada to basically use their "excess"
to feed starving Africa and a few others. You can
therefore you are morally obligated, so goes the
thinking. Minor problem - thus subsidized, these
nations invest far LESS in domestic production. They
become totally addicted to foreign grain. But what
happens when THERE IS NONE to "give away" to these
countries ??? This may be where we're at now.

The Brits have even hinted at sending in a big naval
convoy to open passage to the docks near Odessa so
grain freighters can load. Of course Russia cannot
tolerate this, their ships would fire on the ships
and put The Final War dangerously close. Russia
would also attack those docks and grain storage
facilities - the food would all go up in smoke.
Saboteurs can also introduce biological agents into
the stores - molds/fungi that ruin the product.
