Was it Putin after all? Russian 'research' ship sails close
to Shetland after undersea cables were mysteriously cut - as
engineers battle to restore internet and phone communications

Akademik Boris Petrov travelled through the Shetland-Orkney
Gap on 21 October

A blogger said the transit of ship was likely 'strategic
messaging' to the UK

.. . .

These communications cables are almost entirely undefended
and some completely cross the Atlantic. EASY targets, and
targets of MAJOR relevance these days. Drone subs can
easily find and destroy them.

Without these cables, comm traffic, including internet,
would all have to be run thru relay satellites. If you
ever had satellite internet the word is LATENCY ...
like those news broadcasts from Timbuktu where the
anchor asks a question and it's five or ten seconds
before the reporter hears it and can answer. Not TOO
horrible for vocal stuff ... but given the sheer amount
of SHIT attached to modern web apps, data that has to
go back and forth a thousand times before you even see]
the 'Welcome to Amazon' page, such latency is the next
thing to DOOM.

Sat connections have to go up about 33,000 miles, then
back down 33,000 miles - and might have to do that a
few times before arriving at the destination. Then
the response has to re-trace the same path. This is
where the speed of light suddenly becomes TOO SLOW,
not counting delays from the electronics.

Oh, and the sat systems are NOT meant to handle anything
close to todays internet traffic load. Get in the queue,
wait your turn.

A ship dragging its anchor on the sea bottom won't be "sailing" anymore.

Do you have no brain? Are you stupid or something, or just plain stupid?
