Peter Higgs, as widely expected, was awarded the Nobel Prize for Physics after ultra-high-tech experiments eventually confirmed what Higgs (and various other particle theorists studying quantum mechanics) had been saying for decades.

I'm hardly a believer--except perhaps in the realm of the hard sciences--but hey, that "G-d particle" term was catchy alright, and thus caught on, apparently for good. Though I suppose most of those lab-coated guys instead just call it the Higgs boson.

Though born in England, Higgs expired in Scotland at 94 on Monday, April 8th, a date science happened to be on the minds of many Americans, as it was the day of the 2024 North American total solar eclipse.
