the coast had whole houses washed out to sea in tidal surges. More
than half the people in the maritimes lost power. Lovely old trees
snapping and falling on power lines mostly.

Watching the track, right now not overly concerned. We will get at
least wind and rain though. Houses in the past few years are designed
for 150 mph winds. I did fire up the generator just to be sure it worked
so the fridge will be safe.

I may have company though. My daughter lives in a mobile home and my
granddaughter lives in a camper. If it is going to be bad they will
have to evacuate.

Thanks, I live on a hill above Halifax in suburbia so if I flood or
suffer tidal surge...we're an old solid concrete build from the '70s
so it would be quite the hurricaine to do us damage rather than
aggravation. I do find my tolerance for upset to routine far less
these days, but that's my prob lol

I do notice that it has really upset my cat, she is really not herself
currently :)

Yes, I was listening on the radio today (my old transistor lol) and a
woman who lived in a mobile home was saying it was unnerving when the
mh kept lifting while the wind howled. She got through it okay but
said her dog and cat were traumatized! Stay safe.

It maintains contact to be able to place or
receive a call.

When powered-off it does not send / receive
radio-based data packets. Surely an EE grad
understands this.

you can used a phone that has not been
activated by any carrier.

It's easy. Turn it off and leave on a room-temperature area for a couple
of hours by itself. After that, touch the back of the phone. If it's
lukewarm or slightly warm, then it's not really off.

I wouldn't be concerned about phones pretending to be off and spying on
you. That's a very deliberate and targeted attack on people and it's not
something that a bad actor will be able to do on a massive scale. Even
Snowden is not that concerned on that specific attack.

Just turn your phone off when you're out and about and you'll have no
problems.
