We had some fruit flies, so I took a very thin slice of lemon,
but about 2cm of water over it in a little yogurt jar, then added
some malic acid and a drop of shampoo. Then I went to the
grocery store. When I returned, there were 8 of the *drownded*.

Since I started typing this, I caught #9.

My post was intended to be instructive. For anyone
who gets fruit flies with any frequency, it is worth it
to spend a few bucks on some malic acid. The
combination of the complex aromatics of fruit with
malic acid is irresistible to fruit flies. Adding the
drop of shampoo is essential because it breaks the
surface tension of the water, so when they land on
it, they can't fly away. At last count, there were 12,
and that may be all of them.

I don't recall Bryan ever saying he followed Hindu beliefs.

And even if so, he would be helping those souls back
into human bodies again. If you're going to spout
religious beliefs even more riduculous than the
asinine Christian ones you purport to follow,
it behooves you to at least pretend to know
what you're talking about.

In Hindu mythology, one who has lived a good life
wouldn't be reincarnated as a lower life form. One
complete stupidity about Hinduism is the way that
higher caste Hindus treat cattle better than they
do the lowest caste humans (Dalits). It's way more
asinine than even Calvinian predestination.

LOL. There's some truth in that.
Full retirement takes some planning too.
When I worked full time, I managed to do everything that I wanted to
after work or on weekends.

Once you eliminate those full time working hours + commute time, you're
left with a huge gap of time to fill in all of the sudden. Easy to
become lazy and do worthless things.

I'm still working on that problem.

When I retired at 53 I made a promise to myself that I had to be out of
the house before 11 am and that if I ever found myself sitting around
watching Jerry or his ilk in daytime TV I had to go out and get a job.

My brother also retired early. I think he was 55. He moved back down
this way and got a part time job as a provincial prosecutor. He started
off staying at our mother's for the days he had to work and bought a
house down here. His wife managed a store and was able to arrange a
transfer. His job didn't last very long. He couldn't stand his boss so
he quit. He then got a job in the tasting room of a winery. There were
some strange dynamic in the family that owned the winery and when the
job was no longer fun he quit.

I just happily accept the fact I'm now lazy and can happily to worthless
things. I've thought about some sort of volunteer time but that means
commitment and, horrid, some sort of schedule.

You could always make it more interesting by trying to catch fruit
flies blindfolded. Please report back!

Whatever happened to Mark Thorson? He was trying to harvest
genetically mutated fruit flies that would piss out lysergic acid,
last we heard from him.

I found a dead MT. The time and age are right, but it can't be
him. Or else he had double life and personality.

I actually would do that but the shelters are too far away.
I'd love to find a neighbor that has some that I could visit
now and then. I would volunteer to babysit if they went out
of town.
