I put the majority of the meat sauce into a bowl
before beginning the layering process. It's in the
oven, and I already put the mozzarella on top.

Bowl or another pot. I would be a tad nervous browning meat in glass or ceramic stoneware.

Best not to do this again, Bryan. Those Corning Ware dishes are not
meant to be used on a stove top. They can easily get a center hot spot
that heats up too quickly and can potentially shatter it.

Been there, done that. Learn from *my* mistake.

Best to make your sauce in a metal pan on stove top.
It won't kill you to have to clean one extra pot.

Besides, lasagne is supposed to be a layered dish, not all the sauce on
the bottom.

I generally agree, but the ground beef for lasagna isn't
seared hot. I wouldn't brown a chuck roast in Pyrex
or Corning Ware before braising. Back in 2011 I wrote,

"I've shattered Pyrex on a stove top. Even my Corning
Ware doesn't get subjected to extremes.

Brown in metal, and deglaze. It's not that much extra
trouble. The Pyrex incident happened while making
gravy from a deer shank someone had given me. The
thing shattered into a thousand tiny pieces. We refer
to the incident as, 'Bambi's Revenge.'"

I really would like to know why you handle reading RFC the way you do.
You say you download them for OFFLINE; then you read them all. why?
Why not just let the new messages download when you come back and have
them display in a threaded order? That way you could read before you reply.

Not Gary, but I always read/write usenet offline and post followups
later. I'm impatient and hate waiting for individual articles to load
(computers wait for me, I don't wait for computers). Eternal-September
used to be very responsive, but lately there is a discernable lag
reading single posts online.

People download NNTP messages if they have a slow or sporadic connection. A lot of people used to do that when dial-up was prevalent. As it goes, such connections are dying out.

Tasty in that way, but there's more to meat than
the surface Maillard flavor, and even with not
heavily browning the meat you get a good
amount of that because the juices brown, and
there's no need to deglaze because you're using
the Corning Ware to bake. I'd prefer not to have
crispy hamburger in a casserole anyway.
