Hey, I worked for less than $2 an hour and it was good money Bought my
first house making less than $3. The Federal minimum is a joke today.
People just won't work for it and I don't blame them. Some states have
taken over that role.

Ohio's minimum wage is somewhere just a hair over $9/hr. I think that's
a smart idea; allow the states to decided minimum wage, which
drastically varies based on the local economy. What's good for
California is not good for Ohio/West Virginia/etc. and vice-versa.

It's an expensive place to live. We were there about 5 years ago. Hotel
prices weren't too bad, but everything else was expensive. Hotel meals
were expensive. Coffee was almost double to price we pay. I should add
the those were the menu prices. Never mind the exchange rate. Fruits
and vegetables were considerably more than we pay and a lot of them were
grown in the state. While bananas are not a local produce they were
selling for 99 cents a pound there. At home were getting them for
49cents, less than 40cents US. We could get a cup coffee here for
$1.50, about $1.10 US but it would be $2.75 there. My niece and her
family live in southern California. Their utility bills are enough to
put people into the poor house.

We visited a friend in Palo Alto and I could not believe the rent that
she was paying for her tiny unit. She was 71 or 72 at the time but
could not afford to stay there unless she had a paying job.

It's no wonder that people who are retiring and no longer need to work
in the cities are packing up and moving. We have enough of that here in
southern Ontario. Retirees who lied and worked in Toronto are selling
their houses in the city for $1million or more and coming down here and
buying bigger and nicer houses for half that and pocketing the difference.

In California, a Hawaiian would feel right at home with the prices - darn right comfortable, I'd say. He might even be happy.

lower than Hawaiian prices. Alaska would be even higher, especially in
northern coastal Alaska.

Kitchen pantries in northern coastal Alaska are huge. Built to store at
least 10 months of food. Those folks shop LARGE and it's delivered by
BARGE in the couple of ice-free summer months (july-august)
