This morning when I got up for some reason I had biscuits and gravy on
my mind. I don't know why but it kept sloshing around in my brain. Two
biscuits went into the toaster oven and when they were about halfway done
I started on the gravy.

Goodness!! It was delicious and I guess that's because I'd not made any
gravy in about a year. I had some cooked sausage patties that I could
have chopped up and added but the 'naked' version was lip smacking.
My plate was so clean I could have put it back in the cabinet but I resisted
the urge and put it in the sink with the skillet and coffee mug.

So, biscuits & milk (or cream) gravy, sans sausage. I could go for one
of those. :)

I saw on the weather channel this morning it got quite cold, almost
freezing, in the Nashville area. Maybe that's why. :)

It was 38° when I got up at 8:00 and reached about 50° today. Freeze warning

It's supposed to hit the high thirties next Sunday as a low here. I
turned off and blew out my sprinkler system on the 14th, just because
that's what I always do. I may have reacted a little early this year.
Forty years of winterizing the sprinkler system. This year, for the
first time, I forgot to turn off the water first. Yeah...don't do that!
Old age. Where am I? To whom am I speaking?

Cindy was right, and I was kind of a doofus... I attempted to fire up my
boiler today (last minute), and oops... the pilot light won't light.
Bad thermocouple. I broke the tiny gas line heading to the pilot light
when changing the thermocouple. Double oops, none of the local stores
carry the tiny line that size.

It's going to be in the 30's tonight, and it's getting cold in here.
It's about 54 degrees inside or so, for now. Space heater it is, for
the mean time. Fortunately, we will have high's in the low 70's for the
weekend into early next week. Hopefully, I'll figure out where to get a
new pilot light gas line by then.

So you broke your small pilot light gas line (that always stays on),
meanwhile it's constantly leaking gas.

*Someday* you'll hopefully find a new one and fix it?

Your house sound like a fire hazard just waiting to happen.
Fix it pronto or stop being so cheap and hire a professional
to fix it....NOW!

It's your house, not one of your many cheap cars that you drive with bad
brakes.

It was actually chilly here last night. The outdoor temps got down into
the 40's. I had the thermostat set to kick on if it got down to 67°F
inside the house. It did.

I'll admit I know nothing about gas thermocouples or gas boilers but
perhaps you should call the *gas company*. It seems downright dangerous
to attempt repairs such as this yourself, especially since you don't
know where you can find the parts.

We have three houses that need attention. It's supposed
to go up to 70 tomorrow, then 80 for the next 3 days, and
not get near freezing for at least the rest of October. In the
house we live in, the gas will fire up, but the blower fan
won't go on. Most likely a motor capacitor. I got off my
ass and messaged an HVAC company to do all the jobs.
I guess that I shouldn't complain that Target scheduled
me 29 hours next week, because that's some extra money
for the heating repairs, and my leg has gotten better, such
that the work isn't particularly painful.

Gary, I turn the pilot light out every summer, as to not waste gas. The
thermocouple detects a pilot flame, and if it goes cold (no flame) or
fails completely, then the gas wouldn't come out from the pilot light,
even if I had the gas valve turned on.

You and Jill have so little faith. Why would I have gas directly
pouring into my house? That's literally mentally retarded. The gas is
turned off, because the boiler won't function without the pilot light,
hence why it's so cold in here.

What happened to your leg? Still the issue from falling into the
furnace duct?

I only call an HVAC company if I'm really in a pickle. I've learned
enough from them in the past (plus Youtube) that I can repair just about
anything on my own. I managed to repair my mother's circa 1960 boiler
(and ancient central air unit/handler) several times on my own, after
one service call, over the past several years.

There is a web forum called DIY Chatroom, and there are a number of
older HVAC guys on the appropriate section within who are retire and
eager to help for free. I remember after I replaced the fan motor in
the condenser unit (outside), it spun backward... I posted a picture of
the wiring to that forum, and a guy gave me step-by-step instructions on
what wire to move where, and it worked perfectly after I finished.

Yes. It gets a little better all the time, but it's not
by any means back to normal.
