This was the worst hurricane on record for northeastern
Canada. Normally no one thinks of hurricanes and Canada
together, but here it is.

Hurricane Juan in 2003 hit the same area, but was not
nearly as strong. This was an actual cat-2 and things
there weren't built to withstand such winds and sea.

This has been a year of global extremes - all at once.
GW gets blamed but it's been too much, too fast, for
that excuse to reign supreme.

The Tonga volcano injected VAST quantities of water into
the stratosphere this year. H2O is a greenhouse gas and
has other possible impacts on global climate. It is
suggested the stratosphere got an extra 25% more H2O
because of the volcano.

Volcanic upticks can do far more damage than GW or GC or
anything much else short of a giant meteor impact. Activity
DOES seem to be trending upwards of late.

In any case, NS/Newfoundland were NOT set to deal with
this sort of thing. Fionia will still pack TS force
winds even as it drifts off towards western Greenland.
Not too many there, although the capital city IS, but
that's not the point. Defacto tropical storms in
Greenland ??? Who'd think ?
