For those who care. Kathy just called me. Sheldon was improving but
still having a hard time walking and then he fell again. She said he
got up out of bed and tried to walk to the other side of the room in the
middle of the night. Wait, what?! I asked weren't there *bedrails* on
the side of his bed? How was he able to get out of bed? I was
surprised she didn't think to ask about that.

At any rate, he's hanging in there. She said she thought about getting
him a tablet and setting it up so he could access RFC but said he would
not be able to figure out a tablet. Touch screens. She's probably
right. I said someone here mentioned a laptop. She said he probably
couldn't type on one of those, either. It's nice to know she did try to
think about ways to keep him connected. :)

She is actively looking for Assisted Living just in case there is no way
she could care for him at home. He's always been resistent to in-home
care "strangers" even after his last fall. Suspicious, paranoid. She
would like to bring him home but his own stubborness may prevent it.
Needs to be a place with varying levels of care for dementia.

She's toured two places and immediately ruled them out. Warehousing. Nope.

Meanwhile, Kathy says the cats are fine and Sheldon is happy about that. :)

I have a nice samsung tablet he can have. It is touch but a wireless keyboard (looking at it) is there too.
I bought my mom the one I am typing on and she passed a year ago. The other is good stuff if I can offer it.

He may have put the rails down. I imagine he needs a walker but can be
too stubborn to use one.

Instead of a tablet, perhaps a 14" laptop would work for him. I use one
on my lap sitting in the recliner.

Sounds like it will take some time and his stubbornness will make it
even longer. He's going to need a lot of care.

John is past the point of being able to understand the extent of his
narcissism. I would agree with you, and I was immediately appalled at
John's comment, attempting to direct attention back to himself... but
mentally, John has deteriorated to the point that he can't help it.

A tablet probably wouldn't work at all. He might be even slower typing
on a lap-top, but I think it would be worth a shot. It would get him
something to do during the day, rather than twiddle his thumbs. They
make lap-tops with full-size keyboards and number pads on the side.
He'd surely need a separate mouse, however.

Sounds like Sheldon has two choices.
Either accept an in-home assistant occasionally at first or never come
home again. No doubt what his choice would be.

Kathy should should just hire a temporary home assistant. Once Sheldon
gets to know the person it might turn out fine. Maybe try a few
different ones.
