Michael, believe it or not, it rains in the desert. When I was a kid my
Dad drove us through the Mojave desert towards his next assignment in
Virginia. He had to pull off to the side of the road because when it
started raining it was torrential, blinding rain. This was in the
middle of the desert. (The plus side is, when the rain stopped and the
sun came up over the cliffs in the distance there was the biggest,
brightest rainbow we ever saw.) Yes, even people in Nevada need good
windshield wiper blades.

My post was intended as humor, but a friend of mine from a car meet
lives in Arizona, and he was complaining that his car doesn't have
intermittent wipers... but rain only sprinkles there, so he only needs
intermittent wipers. Perhaps that depends on the specific climate of
the area. His yard was nothing but sand and cacti.

Such total bullshit for a semi-worthless product.
I tried it myself once and tossed the rest out.

Yes, the rain will bead up on your windshield. Nice for a parked car but
once you start driving, those beads will spread with the wind you
create. Wipers are necessary during any rain, light or heavy - Rain-X
or not.

I doubt anyone that ever bought this, bought more once they ran out.

Why, Bryan? You no longer use windshield wipers?
Rain-X is sold in dollar stores now. 3 for a dollar. lol

Maybe you've never driven a real car with a windshield. Still driving
that pink Barbie motor scooter? Yeah, I remember that picture.

I think I posted about this sort of stuff years ago. When I worked in
the equipment section we had to replace a lot of windshields on plow
trucks because of the snow and slush that was thrown up and blown back
on them. It was loaded with sand and salt and was really abrasive to the
glass. We tried Rain-X or some similar product and it worked like
magic. Rain would slide right off the windshield. Snow and ice did not
stick to it. However, the effectiveness decreased quickly and it needed
to be re-applied. After a couple of applications the glass got hazy.
Then we had to clean the glass thoroughly to remove the stuff. It was a
short lived experiment.

Well, you'd be incorrect. I've bought a bottle more than once. As soon
as you hit about 40 MPH, the beaded water goes *straight* off of the
windshield... almost like "magic". Perhaps you only drove in the city,
too slow, which "blows the water around" and not off of the glass.

This is stupid, and I'm not advising it, but I've owned a number of cars
with inoperable windshield wipers. Rain-X makes the cars able to be
driven in light rain, although I don't drive them in heavy rain. Again,
not smart, but it's a stop-gap until I figure out how to fix the wipers,
or get rid of the car.
