Publix Supermarket has a great deal on standing rib roast (5.99/lb.) so
I picked one up after work today:

It's a very nice looking roast! :)

Good thing Michael is hundreds of miles away. He
needs to be kept away from standing rib roasts like
Kuthe needs to be kept away from 14 YO girls. In

14 yo does not fit in Anchor Hocking.

Back to the roast. How does it look prepared? A photo of any recent one works.
Will it be like in the movies?

You'd be proud of me, I think. Today, I was invited to a birthday
dinner for a family member at a Brazilian steak-house. Pricey place in
the Strip District, Pittsburgh. (By my standards, anyway.) I went
because I didn't have to pay ;)

https://texasdebrazil.com/locations/pittsburgh/

I turned down most of the beef, but I did eat a piece that was close to
the look of "medium" on the pictures below (probably more done than the
usual medium). In reality, it was probably the highest cooked that
average steak eaters would tolerate, but it was really pushing my limit.
I'd guess less done than medium-well.

LOLOL, it'll be OK if you have a Shedon-sized meat grinder and cookware!

Same idea as the place I went to a couple of weeks ago. The meats were
excellent. Try closing your eyes and chomp a piece of med-rare some
day. You may be surprised.

I was wondering why the joint sounded familiar. I must have been
thinking of your post, but couldn't recall where I first heard of it.

It's like a needle for a shot or blood drawn, Ed... I'm petrified of it,
but I can't "just look away"... it's more difficult if I don't watch.

Not bad at all. The marbling could be a bit better, but I imagine
it'll be tender and tasty anyhow.

I close my eyes for shots, not because I'm petrified, but because I
feel that if I know when it's coming I might inadvertently tense up.

My 27yo granddaughter has a fear of shots. When she had to get a Covid
shot she was near tears and panicking as the pharmacist wiped her arm.
She was shocked when she was told to wait in the other area and did not
realize it was all over and felt nothing.

It doesn't bother me to look. I was going to watch my latest Covid
booster. I was talking to my wife and could hear the nurse opening a
package out of my line of sight. I thought maybe she was getting the
needle out of a wrapper. Nope. It was a bandage. She claimed to have
already given me the shot. I didn't feel a thing.

A few years ago I had to get a tetanus shot. I was a bit worried because
when I was a child, it was the one injection of which adults were really
frightened.
Of course, with the modern hypodermics, it was painless.

The sight of a hypodermic, even on TV, makes me avert my eyes.
It's weird because blood and guts don't affect me.

I still remember what it was like to get shots when I was a kid and we
got them in school. A nurse came in with the vials of serum and a
hypodermic. The needle was wiped off with an alcohol soaked swab and
then loaded up for the next kid. They were done in alphabetical order so
by the time they got to the S's the needle was starting to get dull.

I didn't look, but it was still painful, though not that much.

I've had injections that I barely felt, but the most recent one was a
bit painful and left a bruise. I think it depends on the skill of the
needle operator.

Thanks but I don't plan on cooking it via the sous vide method. :)

The restaurant down the road serves an awesome prime rib. My granddaughter's daddy used to manage the place. He told me their method of roasting that big hunk. Unfortunately, I've quite forgotten it. In 50 years, a piece of meat like this will cost $700.

Ed and I are going to have to tie you to a chair and blindfold you. Then
we'll feed you varying degrees of doneness steak so you can get the
full taste of less than incinerated meat.

It doesn't bother me if Michael prefers beef cooked to well done. He's
not the first person I've ever known (I'm talking IRL) who would order a
slice of prime rib in a restaurant cooked that way. (They run it under
the salamander/broiler after slicing it off the roast to cook it to that
point.) Then again, I can't see him paying $31 for a standing rib roast
so it's a moot point.

Many years ago (May 1966) we sent to a relatives wedding. They served a
nice piece of prime rib, medium well. Many of the old people sent it
back to be incinerated.

To be honest, I was unsure because at home we never had meat like that.
Pot roast. My wife of two weeks said to try it and I did. Never ate it
any other way since.

The date sticks with me because it was 2 weeks after our wedding. Got a
card from that couple today too.

Was this needle injection of heroin from Amsterdam? [Kwam deze naaldinjectie heroïne uit Amsterdam?]
