That's what he's saying - that everybody should just take
the most "convenient" route. Some do - and that's usually
the last the world hears of them until some archeologist
digs up some dusty bones.

Russia has done, and for the meanwhile will continue to do,
rather a lot of damage in Ukraine. The free(-ish) world
just has to keep helping Ukraine counter the attacks and
rebuild the damage. Not "convenient", but necessary. Putin
was counting on "convenient", like when he first grabbed
that eastern edge of Ukraine. Gotta disappoint him this
time.

To be plain, humanity is sick to death of tinpot dictators oppressing
and conquering to their greater glory. There are few left, Saddam
being the most recent of the truly powerful ones to go down.

Putin has not learned from history. Imperial expansion by military
force is over and done with on this planet.
