It just wouldn't be Christmas without some mincemeat tarts. I knew I had
some leftover mincemeat in the fridge but not much, so when I went
shopping this morning I tried again to get some. No luck. I went through
the aisles and ended up asking a store employee. I was corrected. It's
called minced fruits and it's in Aisle 8. Okay... I went down that aisle
earlier and they did have plastic tubs of mixed fruits and mixed peel
etc, but not jars of mincemeat.

When I got home I checked the fridge and found that I had more leftover
from last year than I had thought, about half a jar. To be on the safe
side, I diluted it with brandy. That was enough for a batch of 24 small
tarts and large ramekin size tart/pie.

Of course not.

I grew up with the same, and end up having some at Dad's house. He
talks me into visiting every year. I'm not sure if I'd bother to make
it on Christmas morning, if at my house... unless it's more at lunch
time. Only coffee and toast for me in the morning, please.

My husband and I constitute an entire family. We do what we like and
observe the traditions that we enjoy. We skip his family's traditional
Bloody Marys (which were probably anesthesia against noisy children)
and have the breakfast casserole. It bakes while we open presents.

I used to be that way. Just coffee in the morning, unless I had
a hangover. Now I prefer to keep my blood sugar on a more even
keel by eating in the morning.
