From Yankee Magazine's Church Supper Cookbook some years ago.

BARBECUE MEAT LOAF

The sauce makes the big difference here.

Yield: Serves 6-8

Ingredients

1 onion, minced
1-1/2 tablespoons butter
1-1/2 pounds ground beef
1/2 cup fresh bread crumbs
1 egg
1/2 cup tomato sauce
1-1/2 teaspoons salt
1/4 teaspoon pepper

Instructions

Sauté onion in butter until soft. Combine with other ingredients
and mix well. Form into loaf and place in 10"x14" baking pan.
Pour 1/2 cup Barbecue Sauce (see below) over loaf and bake for 1
hour at 350 degrees F., basting from time to time with the
remaining sauce.

BARBECUE SAUCE:

Ingredients

1-1/2 cups tomato sauce
1/2 cup water
2 tablespoons vinegar
3 tablespoons brown sugar
2 tablespoons prepared mustard
2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce

we always make Lipton onion soup meatloaf, the recipe is on the onion
soup box. to BBQ it we smoke it with hickory on a grill. no need for
sauces or any other toppings, it is great right out of the pan.

[this space is reserved for the Lipton onion soup lames]

Sounds good. I got a 7 bone packer choice ribeye for the eve. Cooking
4 bones off the small end freezing the other 3. Cold here too so it
will be an oven cook. Gonna try a high temp.. lower temp.. high temp
finish method, seasoned with salt and pepper.

Cheers

Is that why he's your ex-son in law? Lol... I've had very overcooked
crock pot ribs, where the meat becomes bitter and dry, some how... just
nasty.

The only way that I've ever cooked ribs was covered, cooked in a slow
oven for hours, with BBQ and OJ. Very tender and fall off the bone.
Uncover for the last portion to thicken up and brown a bit.

Interesting comment.
I've been tempted to try it with beef stew or even add it to ground
beef. Imagine all the criticism from the "gang" that would be
forthcoming if I would have suggested that, rather than you.

I like it but, so far, have only used it for good dip. One package of
Lipton Onion soup mix to a pint of sour cream is pretty good.

Sounds like you care too much about what other people think. The gang is made up of people that care too much about what other people think. The gang is kind of boring.

Careful there Gary.
Has Master Druce provided his ingredient list yet?
It may be poisonous.

I have bought Lipton Onion soup ages ago. I don't recall what use I had for it but I think a salty onion soup would be tasty alright. I suppose I could make meatloaf with it - a salty, oniony, meatloaf would be tasty too. I like onion and salt.

I like the one for the popular spinach dip.... a package of Knorr
spring vegetable soup mix, some mayo and sour cream and a package of
frozen spinach.

I'm not one for wanting BBQ sauce basted on meat loaf. Interesting idea
but I'm not one for wanting BBQ sauce basted on mealoaf. To my taste,
BBQ sauce should be used sparingly even on barbequed/grilled ribs.
Don't let that stop you, though. :)

When you say 7 bone packer choice ribeye... what? Is it a standing rib
roast? The only 7 bone roast that comes up in a search of 7 bone is a
bone-in chuck roast. I'm confused as to what you bought, bob.

For spinach dip I prefer spinach-artichoke dip in a sourdough bread bowl
(boule). For example:

https://www.bonappetit.com/recipe/stovetop-spinach-artichoke-dip

It was very popular at parties and always one of the first things to be
consumed first.

I made a meatloaf a couple weeks ago, the first one in a long time. I
usually put some ketchup on top but that time I also used a little BBQ
sauce. It turned out really nicely.

He bought an entire rib primal:

https://www.beefitswhatsfordinner.com/cuts/cut/2851/rib-primal

Or at least most of one.

"Ribeye" is a misnomer. "Ribeye" refers just to the meaty portion
of the rib primal.

Yes, I bought an entire rib eye. No bones. Had a roast cut that will
be cooked on the rotisserie for Christmas dinner. The rest was sliced
to be steaks.
