Christians now account for less than half of England and Wales'
population for the first time in census history, government
figures reveal.

The Office for National Statistics (ONS) results show that 46.2
per cent of the population (27.5 million people) described
themselves as 'Christian' in 2021. This marks a 13.1 percentage
point decrease from 59.3 per cent (33.3 million people) in 2011.

The census data also shows that every major religion increased
over the ten-year period, except for Christianity.

"No Religion" is the big runner-up at 37.2 percent.

Hindu and Moslem increased slightly over the 10 years.

Some years back, the Brits had to add "Jedi" as a religion
of choice on the census form because so many were writing
it in by hand :-)

Now an issue ... despite how it has been abused over the
millenia, the Christian religion DOES promote tolerance
and "forgiveness". We decidedly can NOT say the same for
Islam or even so much for Jews. Buddhists are usually
pretty mellow but they are a TINY TINY percentage of
the UK pop. "No Religion" - well - flip a coin, roll
the dice, ya never know. Most 'democracies' of note in
the world were an extension of "christian principles"
and their "let's all just get along" thing. WITHOUT
that ... where does Brit society go ? Sanity, or one
of the biggest hate-fests in the past thousand years ?

Ben Franklin once remarked that, observing the "common
man", he could see how horrible they could be, often were,
even THOUGH they'd call themselves "christians" - and
wondered what they'd be like without religion. Religions
may be a lie/error, but they DO shape things.

Given the long history of religious
wars and religious executions it is no
surprise that the British have had enough
with religion.
