I hope they pair it with a better transmission than the last Chinese
motorcycle I test rode. LOL.

Years ago 3 Bros Cycles brought in a line of Chinese "custom" low rider
cruisers. Since the owner and I got along fine he let me take one for a
test drive. I don't recall all the particulars, but the performance was
adequate, but paired with a terrible transmission. I couldn't speed
shift it at all. Even clutching every shift I managed to jam the
transmission on the ride back. It took me five minutes along side the
road bumping the bike back and forth and blipping the throttle and
clutch to get it un-jammed. Terry told me that the transmissions on all
of them need to be broken in. Yeah, no shit!

Looks like the performance of the Shineray clone might be adequate...
if a little off that of the motor it copies.

If they were going to do a knockoff, why not something really cool like
an S&S Evo 100 inch square bore. I'd love to build a bagger around that
motor if I still rode much.

Shirley break out the milk and cookies for all the new Shineray owners
as they come in. Everybody else, I'll have a bottle of the good stuff
in the back if you'd like a sip.

I'll have a sip ! Today I'll probably be finishing the tear down of
the trans on the Ultra . It's been whining in the lower gears , probably
mostly because I let it get low on oil (the main drive gear pair needed
replacing last time I worked on it and I cheaped out) . I finally got
the truck motor sorta dialed in , though it needs some carb tweaking .
That cam I installed is a lot more like a "3/4 race" cam than an RV
grind and I need to work on the idle .

Did you specifically ask for an RV cam, or did you let the parts guy
suggest a cam?

3/4 race? Dang. Even an RV cam can tear rubber motor mounts if you are
torquing in lower gears. A 3/4 race cam will rip them in a second. On
my 360 (30 over) with RV cam I drilled through the motor mounts and
installed a grade 8 bolt with a lock nut. That way the engine still
rested on the rubber mounts, but couldn't tear them apart. I don't know
if your mounts will have that problem or if they can be modified in a
similar manner, but you may want to look at them.

When my dad built his Bronco (351W) as I mentioned int he RCM group he
installed what he called a 1/4 race cam. It loped and when you goosed
it the thing would jump like a scalded cat. The second rebuild we
swapped it to an RV cam, and it just had a bit of a rumble.

If it really is running like a race cam you might want to consider
tearing it back down and installing a cam that you like better.

Actually I chose that cam because it was "close" to the specs of an
RV cam I had in a 283 many years ago - that cam ended up in a 305 and I
loved it . This one was listed as a "stage 3 camshaft" , and I listened
to several sbc motors using a cam with identical specs (Summit 1103)
before I bought it .

The bolt on my motor mounts goes thru metal on both parts , not
worried about tearing them up . As far as swapping this cam out , I
don't think I want to do that ... OK so it's a bit "hotter" than I meant
it to be , but I don't see that as a great big problem . If this was a
daily driver to and from work I might be more concerned , but this truck
is going to be a toy . We got along just fine with one car and the
motorcycles for 5 years so ...
And ya know the best part ? My wife understands ! Sure , she's made a
couple of comments on how much I've spent , but never with any animosity
or saying I've gone too far . I think I'll keep her ... (Married 49
years in August)

Harley Content

Today I finished taking the trans apart on the Ultra , and it's not
as bad as I thought it might be since I basically ran the poor thing out
of oil . The main drive gear will be replaced along with the
countershaft gear , everything else seems to be OK . No signs of galling
or other damage on any of the other gears , all the needle bearings are
fine . The main drive gear bearing and the main and counter shaft
bearings on the other side will be replaced just because . Seals and
gaskets replaced a/n , the big seal on the MDG and the sprocket nut are
both on order from a shop in Little Rock (Rodney's Cycle House) . I'm
also replacing the comp sprocket , chain and clutch basket w/sprocket .
I figger when I get done the bike will be good for another 120,000 miles
.. Not that I'll live that long , but I'm damn sure gonna try !

Just cracked a new bottle of COA de Jima Reposado ... this is some
damn smooth Terkillya for a mid price point ! If we drink this whole
handle , there's another in the cellar . Shirley pass out some glasses !
