You're doing a lot of work and no need to skip a process.
Priming drywall can be skipped (and often is) in new construction.
Best choice is to first use a good latex primer.

Benjamin Moore Regal First Coat primer is a good one.
BM products are overpriced though. Many other company primers will work
just as well.

Get your ceiling all patched (joint compound) and sanded. Use the primer
for the 1st coat - on the entire ceiling.

Pictures along with questions would be a big help.

I have a contractor account at Sherwin Williams, and that makes some
contractor-grade paints 70 per cent off... which brings them in line
with the cost of mid-grade paint at Home Depot... LOL. Bonus is that
it's a charge account, and they bill me later in the mail for the paint.

Screw that - It's texture paint. It's thicker than a milkshake
and is for hiding shitty drywalls (but not ceilings! I ignored
that part and did it anyway. It was a mess - There's no place
for this stuff to run on ceiling)

backwards.

Good point. I heard about tapered edges but blew it off until
now... I was measuring the long edge but I was putting the whole
1.5" arms of my $.72 Temu.com calipers (just got them on Saturday!
Made my day! <heh>) over the long edge which extended past the
taper. Yep - I'm still getting a cunt hair over 1cm or 13/32 even
in the center of the short edges on all three pieces (I cut the
4x8 into 3rds in the parking lot to fit in the car).
