Taiwan President Tsai Ing-wen said that her country refuses
to "engage in a meaningless contest of dollar diplomacy with
China" after Honduras opened ties with Beijing on Sunday,
ending relations with Taiwan that date back several decades.

"It is with deep regret that today we end our diplomatic
relations with Honduras," Tsai said in a statement on Sunday.
"These past few years, China has persistently used any and
all means to suppress Taiwan’s international participation,
intensify its military intimidation against Taiwan, and
disrupt regional peace and stability."

.. . .

Well .......... the USA has done the same things
for a very long time. We buy "friends" and insert
ourselves in foreign markets and push others out.
It's the kinder-n-gentler kind of 'imperialism' -
nothing has to explode in flames and the locals
basically make their own choice of whom to deal
with based on money.

This is How To Do Business 101 - move in, compete,
buy friends/influence, screw the competition. Hasn't
changed in 10,000 years back when "money" was pigs,
bags of grain and that daughter you can't figure out
what to do with.

I think Taiwan - and the USA - are just pissed off
because China is now doing it BETTER. Shit, we've
basically handed S.America and central Africa to
them, not even bothering to compete. We even let
India slip into Putin's sphere of influence ...
which is kind-of China's sphere now too.

Yup except for India being in China's sphere. The two have been at each other often over
the years and India is a member of The Quad; the anti China alliance composed of the US,
Australia, Japan and India.

Competition improves the breed, as they say, and China is giving us real competition of
the sort we haven't had in decades.

IMO, economic and diplomatic competition beats war any day. Thank you, Richard Nixon.
