I think they were peripheral, and in and of themselves
Mostly Harmless ... the REAL action was amongst the hard
Marxists, oft hidden just out of sight on college campuses.
These people used the movements/'tribes' of the 60s, adding
their own color, undertones. A truer face were the violent
Weathermen and and "Muslim" factions and later the SLA.
Whatever was weird, they piggybacked, or sometimes they
were pig-jockeys.

The Marxists played the long game. Always there, always
shaping discussions, slowly but surely ....

Tailgunner Joe warned, but ultimately this enemy was too
smooth, too nebulous, too difficult to define, more or
less within their rights. Their goal was not to facilitate
military conquest by the USSR/CCP but to rot the USA from
within until the totalitarians could inherit it by default.

In any case, looks like they've mostly won. It would take
some sort of hard-ass militarist/fascist movement to crush
them down now and bring their idiot minions into line. I
don't yet see that happening. MORE worried THEY will offer
to be "the answer" to the disorder and threat they
themselves spawned - cause a problem so you can "save"
everyone from it ......
