I was just using you as a paradigm example of an old
gay man. Those young guys didn't look like they would
probably *give* fellatio to an old man, but the looked
like they might be willing to *receive* fellatio to *from*
an old man. Nothing personal.

I think it very likely that you like the movie better than
you like that stupid band...well...unless they...

I've been watching the movies "Dune." It feels like we've been exiled from Caladan to Arrakis: we're staying for a couple of weeks at my dad's house while our condo's plumbing is being worked on. It's so hot and dry here! Life is a lot different. My step-mom keeps the household like a Swedish woman and we're used to living island style i.e., like slobs. OTOH, there's a good chance of us moving in here permanently. That'll be hard but what's life without adversity/change? Boring, that's what.

i've been rereading Dune (the whole series) again.

Frank is an interesting writer and very entertaining. :)
i can usually find something in each re-read that makes it
worth it.

Book one is good. Book two is not very good. Book three is
very good. The first three books prepare the reader for the
fourth book, which is the important one. The books after
*God Emperor of Dune* are not worth reading at all.

Read the books in a sand dune. That would be terribly cool.

It's on the Windward side of the island of Oahu but it's hot. My dad has a condo in Las Vegas that he left for my step-mom. Maybe my brother will move to LV in the future. I'm not so hot about that place because they have had scorpions in the condo. I'd rather have roaches. Roaches can't send you to the hospital. The scorpions are like the sand worms on Arrakis.

scorpions stings are supposedly like a bee sting.

I've found that paper wasps won't attack if they're used to humans
near their nest. We once had a nest in a part of the property where we
don't often go and I got badly stung twice there. A year ago, we had a
nest straight above my car door. They left me alone and I them.

The sting of the scorpion sounded a lot worse than a bee sting. OTOH, I've never been stung by either. Perhaps I've lead a sheltered life. My step-mom's brother-in-law got stung in the condo. His arm was in pain for a few days and took a couple of weeks to heal.
The good news is that we don't have a lot of scary bugs here. We do have large spiders but the don't bite - well, that's what I've read. Currently, I'm trying to get over my fear of these critters. Ideally, I'd like to pick one up when I get a chance. Here's a rather unusual specimen - it has all of it's legs.

It looks a bit like the huntsmen that we have here. There are always a
few in the house. Lately, I've been removing a small one from the
shower cabin each time before I have a shower, so it doesn't drown.
This is a bigger one:

It is indeed a huntsman spider. It's called a cane spider on da rock. The methods of dealing with cane spiders in your home should be taught by our public education system.

Maybe I was like that in my first year in Australia, but now I leave
them be, unless they're in the bedroom and big enough that my wife has
a problem with them. Then I put them outside. Ticks, ants and horse
flies bother me more than spiders and even snakes.

I used to sic the cat on the cane spiders - they love to bust those spiders up. These days, I do not summon the services of the cats. Instead, I capture the spiders and release them. Soon, I hope to be able to handle them. Small steps.
Centipedes in the house are a different story. I like to have the cats soften them up first. Then they get tossed to the chickens. The chickens love to tear those centipedes apart and gobble them down. My guess is that it's like Maine lobster to them. In a world full of chickens, the centipede might be in danger of being wiped out. Good.

I think handling them as in picking them up with your hand is quite a
big step. I haven't reached that yet.

I once saw one of our chickens run around with a baby snake in its
beak. I wondered what that would do to its next egg.

Usually friendly unless they feel threatened. I used to paint around
their nests up high often. No one else would go near them.

I would set the ladder right in the corner, slowly and carefully. Then
go up paint slowly and carefully all around and even behind the nest. I
usually talked to them softly too.

First paint everything to the right of the nest - slow motion.
They all turned that way to watch.
Then I would switch to my left hand and paint all on that side. As soon
as I switched sides, all the wasps would rotate and continue to watch my
every move.

I found that to be *pretty cool*.

We don't see too many wasps around our house. Yellow jackets hornets are
a much bigger problem. I had to destroy a nest a few days ago. It was in
the ground about two feet from where we store out green compost bin. It
took three days and three different types of spray, each administered
several times. It finally got enough of them that I could dig up the
nest and destroy it.

Coincidentally, my wife got stung later that day. He were in the car
and it came in the window and got her in the leg. Holy cow did she make
a fuss over that sting. I carry a pill container with some baby aspirin
and some Benedryl for emergencies. She had a bottle of cold water that
she held against it.

It turned out that this was only the second time in her life that she
has been stung. I don't know how that is even possible. I consider it a
good year if I only get stung three times.
