I can't be bothered to defeat the Times paywall.

If I don't buy farmed salmon, I don't buy fish. Whole Paycheck tells me
that my salmon is "Responsibly Farmed".

To me, wild-caught salmon tastes like cat food.

If you knew the story behind farmed salmon, you probably wouldn't buy
it. There are lots of fish that are never farmed, but are always wild
caught. You could buy those.

We have salmon 2-3 times a month. We will pay a little more to get wild
caught west coast salmon because it is better, but we both also like the
farmed stuff.

Wild Atlantic salmon is the best! I am against farming salmon mostly
because of the ruin it creates to the sea floor beneath it and it
seems very cruel to contain a fish that normally swims miles to a
circular net. I went diving years ago in the vicinity of a farm, it
was not pretty.

Ah, but now you're asking RFC to use their brain a bit before they
chew. I wish you the best of luck.

She has me killfiled, her loss...

I post free links/whole articles that are paywalled as a courtesy - as I did with Joan - as it beats
having to click on other links, which can be annoying...

And some "shady" posters here have been known to post "fishy" links...

One *can* register to access a certain number of free articles, IIRC with the TImes it's 10 per year,
but that can be a PITA, too...

I subscribe to NY Times, Wall Street Journal, New York Magazine, they've all many food - related
articles...

And to try to bypass firewalls one can also go into "incognito" browsing:

https://www.computerworld.com/article/3356840/how-to-go-incognito-in-chrome-firefox-safari-and-edge.html

"How to go incognito in Chrome, Edge, Firefox, and Safari

While incognito mode in any of the big four web browsers offers a measure of privacy, it doesn’t
completely hide your tracks online. Here’s how the feature works in each browser, and how to use it..."

Because He isnt stupid and the information is widely posted EVERYWHERE.

It's like your anti-gmo diatribes. He doesn't worry on farmed fish as
much as depleting the oceans perhaps? I don't care about GMO other
than Monsanto's preditory sales tactics.

Did you know farmed salmon is full of chicken fat? I know you don't
care, but did you know?

Of course you don't care about what GMO plants do to the planet. I
never thought you'd worry about that or even knew about it.

I agree with you, Bruce, but anyone that bothered to read that NYT
article would learn about a new farming method being done.

https://www.nytimes.com/2023/10/16/dining/farm-raised-salmon-sustainability.html

I can read it fine without subscribing.

According to this report on one company, the salmon are raised in tanks
from roe to full-sized, ready for sale. They are fed well and their
environment simulates being in the wild. This would also eliminate the
mercury that is found in regular salmon.

Sounds like a winner to me. :)

While they do have a certain amount of
mercury, and are also more expensive,
wild salmon just taste better. If the fresh
(farm raised) salmon at ALDI had a 50%
off sticker on it, I'd buy it in a heartbeat,
but not at full price.

I don't spend every minute of the day fearing food. I don't dwell on
ingredient lists. As a general concept I like the idea of sustainable
farmed products. It's far better than overfished resources and driving
resources to the brink of extinction. We do extensive mollusk farming
all up and down the Chesapeake for example. This is an overall win
when done right.

I've heard your silly objections about it for years. What it does
overall is produce more food per acre and depending on what was
selected for, may reduce diseases and/or better tolerate drought or
extremes of weather. Overall, it's a win.
