We had pot roast for lunch today. Mine was served over green beans
with gravy. His was over (or possibly with) wide egg noodles with
cocktail sauce.

And now I have leftover beef, all set to give me Type 2 diabetes.

Hell, just about everything is supposed to cause diabetes.

Any day now, researchers will discover that the main cause of
diabetes is being alive.

It'll get you even if you gave up smoking.

Pot roast? Not exactly "lunch" food.

Mmmmmm, your lunch sounds great, but I'm not so sure about that cocktail
sauce. If he likes it, that's his choice. Will the leftover roast become sandwiches
or will it be turned into something like a vegetable beef soup?

Yeah, that's how I've always felt about it. He's a little weird, but
that's ok. He also likes cocktail sauce on fried fish.

Sandwiches, although if there's gravy left when the meat is gone,
I might throw it into my next batch of vegetable soup.

I like both hot and cold beef sandwiches. Why limit myself just
one style?

What cut of beef did you use? Cocktail sauce sounds a tad odd with pot
roast but hey, if he likes it...

Boneless chuck. The layout of the variou muscles suggested it was a
7-bone before they removed the bone.

Isn't cocktail sauce primarily catsup plus some horseradish and chili
powder? Catsup is frequently put on hamburgers (ground chuck) and
horseradish frequently served with prime rib.

I wouldn't have thought to put cocktail sauce on pot roast beef, but
not that bad an idea. Think I'll try some on my next hanburger (which
will happen waaay before we make pot roast) instead of catsup.

Yes, cocktail sauce is catsup/ketchup with horseradish. I've never had
it made with chili powder.

It sounded to me like he would put the cocktail sauce on the noodles
that were served with the pot roast. Maybe I thought that due to the
way Cindy worded it. Still, cocktail sauce sounds odd with pot roast.
YMMV. :)

Combining odd sauces and meals isn't unusual. For example, at the salad bar, I like eating French fries with olives and pimentos.. Now, what was REALLY out of left field was hearing about eating cooked bacon along with cantaloup slices. Or with banana slices. THAT'S gross!

My husband adds dry mustard and Tabasco. If we're having it on
shrimp, I add lemon juice to a portion of it.

My bad. Cocktail sauce on the pot roast. He might put gravy on
the noodles. I should watch him eat one of these days.

Decidedly odd. But since it's going in his mouth, not mine, it doesn't
matter how odd.

What's wrong with pickled herring. Pickled herring with sour cream and
a beer is one of the world's great flavor combinations.
