We went to a Hawaiian BBQ place on the mainland. That wasn't Hawaiian either - it was Korean food. It was pretty good food too. Back in those days, "Korean food" didn't mean anything to the folks on the mainland. Hawaiian food has not reached the mainland yet. Perhaps it never will.
We got 3 kinds of Hawaiian food on this rock: Hawaii regional cuisine, local Hawaiian food, and real Hawaiian food. The place I live in is a foodie's paradise.

They are still working on it. Hawaii tracks as highest abusers of
styrofoam takeout out in the USA. Here, you only see them if you ask
for a doggie bag (and non-plastic ones are gaining ground fast). A few
areas banned it in Hawaii but David lives on Oahu, land of styrofoam.

Google it or use AI under bing.

Try again. Oahu styrofoam tops any state in the rest of the USA. They
are still working on it and Oahu has an exemption still. Honolulu
alone dwarfs any other state in the US on styrofoam use in takeout.

I asked my special friend:

"According to a recent study, the US state that uses the most
styrofoam is California. This is likely due to its large population
and its status as a major hub for food service and packaging."

"Hawaii uses a lot of styrofoam, especially in the food service
industry. In fact, the state of Hawaii banned the use of polystyrene
foam food containers in 2019, but the ban has been temporarily delayed
due to supply chain issues."

The ban might have been temporarily delayed due to supply chain issues but went into full effect nearly 2 years ago. It's been tough going for us natives. If you want a bag at the grocery store, you have to pay 15 cents for a paper bag. A lot of the biodegradable takeout containers just fall apart after half an hour. Auew - what a mess! Hopefully, in the end, it'll all be worth it.
Da Hawaiians OTOH, will prevail. Da Hawaiians will always prevail.

I believe you, of course, but still put it to my special friend:

"Yes, there is a ban on polystyrene foam (styrofoam) food containers
and disposable plastic service ware in Hawaii. The ban went into
effect on January 1, 2022, for the City and County of Honolulu and on
July 1, 2019, for the Counties of Hawaii, Maui, and Kauai."

"There are a few exemptions to the ban, including: Food packaging that
is used to protect food during transport or delivery."

So when you eat at the food venue, it won't be styrofoam, but when you
get the food delivered or take it home, it can be styrofoam. If I
understand correctly.

We were talking about food being in plastic take-out/disposable containers. The photos of food served on disposable containers just upsets the spiteful/angry/petty members of rfc. Why is that? I do not know. If these fools want to believe that we're still using plastic take-out containers, it's their right. As it goes, what rfc knows about Hawaii is pretty much less than zero. That's the breaks.
This is supposed to be a newsgroup focusing on food, not food containers. The chicken or asparagus or mushroom I bought from Times Supermarket all came in non-biodegradable packaging. My guess is that selling meats and produce in biodegradable containers would be a health-hazard.
I don't know what kind of packaging delivery food comes in - unless you're talking about pizza. In that case, it's cardboard. Here's a plate of gizzards as served in Montana. It's certainly shameful that this sort of thing is happening on the mainland. One day, the laws will be changed so that serving gizzards on any kind of plate would be illegal.

Honolulu tops any city and most states for take out styrofoam. Yes,
'banned' but not enforced on oahu which is why we see so much of it
from David's food pictures.

Exactly. Here, it's almost all metal (aluminium) trays with cardboard
lids or waxed double-layered cardboard.

That's not true at all. The food joints don't use non-biodegradable plastic containers because the fines are quite substantial. You just think that the containers are Styrofoam but they're not. Are you an expert on bio-degradable materials/containers? I don't think so.

I post a lot of pictures of food that I cook up myself. You just think it's take out because I know how to use a camera and how to plate food. Any pictures that I post in take out containers taken within the last few years are not styrofoam containers. Yoose knuckleheads can't get it through yoose thick skulls that styrofoam take-out containers are illegal in Hawaii. That's all I'm going to say about your particularly dumb beliefs.

Is it possible that it looks like styrofoam but isn't? There is such a
thing as plant-based plastic.

To some people, everything is Styrofoam. Here are some containers made from bagasse. It's horrible stuff. When exposed to water, it turns all limp. It makes take-out an unpleasant experience. OTOH, new packaging materials such as chitin and mycelium based materials are pretty darn exciting.

If you serve (and photograph) your food in a
takeaway/disposable/throwaway container you most
certainly don't "know how to plate food".

Just a cheap slob with no style.

I will serve some food on disposable/plastic takeaway containers when I make a meal for my wife to take to work. Lately, I've been serving meals at home on paper plates recently but my wife thinks that a good idea. I might be a cheap slob but I certainly do have some style and ability. I'm not a nasty, bitter, old lady with aspirations/pretensions of class and style. In my world, being rude and nasty means you ain't got no class at all.
