Darrell Lance Abbott (August 20, 1966 – December 8, 2004), best known by his stage name Dimebag Darrell, was an American musician. He was the guitarist of the heavy metal bands Pantera and Damageplan, both of which he co-founded alongside his brother Vinnie Paul. He is often regarded as one of the greatest heavy metal guitarists of all time.[1][2][3][4]

A son of country music producer Jerry Abbott, Abbott began playing guitar at age 12, and Pantera released its debut album, Metal Magic (1983), when he was 16. Originally a glam metal musician, Abbott went by the stage name Diamond Darrell at the time. Two further albums in the glam metal style followed in 1984 and 1985, before original vocalist Terry Glaze was replaced by Phil Anselmo in 1986 and Power Metal (1988) was released. The band's major-label debut, Cowboys from Hell (1990), introduced a groove metal sound to which Abbott's guitar playing was central. This sound was refined on Vulgar Display of Power (1992), and the group's third major-label record, Far Beyond Driven, debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 in 1994.

Tensions within Pantera reduced its output after the release of The Great Southern Trendkill in 1996, and Reinventing the Steel (2000) was the band's final studio album before its acrimonious separation in 2003. Abbott subsequently formed Damageplan with his brother Vinnie Paul and released New Found Power, the band's only album, in 2004. Other works by Abbott included a collaboration with David Allan Coe titled Rebel Meets Rebel (2006) and numerous guest guitar solos for bands such as Anthrax.

On December 8, 2004, Abbott was shot and killed by a deranged fan while on stage with Damageplan at the Alrosa Villa nightclub in Columbus, Ohio. Three others were shot and killed before the perpetrator was killed by a police officer.

Abbott was ranked at No. 92 on Rolling Stone's list of "The 100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time" in 2011, and No. 19 on Louder's list of "The 50 Greatest Guitarists of All Time" in 2018. He placed at No. 5 on Gibson's list of "The Top 10 Metal Guitarists of All Time" in 2015, and the same year was ranked as the most influential metal guitarist of the past 25 years by VH1.

Yep I remember when it came out, my kids (early teenagers at the time)
thought Pantera was just the bee's knees. Me, not so much...until I
heard them take Ozzie's trippin' song and make it better.

We were in Bali at the time on a holiday. Music seems to punch the
timesheet on certain events, music can be used as a time machine and a
memory aide.

Like Richard Ashworth's Bittersweet Symphony, walking down a London
street over everything - I remember where I was when that first came
out in the nineties, too.

So, it's just you and me by the looks of things. I'm considering
writing to one of Slider's neighbours to see if they can do a welfare
check on the old cunt - I know exactly where he lives.

Same with Chris - he used to run a transport business so his address
is known, failing that, his daughter is sort of famous as a school
cop, been in the papers etc in Cali, so could ask her to do a welfare
check.

Maybe they're both dead? Wouldn't surprise me, it's the end game for
all of us sooner or later. As ZeroHedge motto goes, in the long run,
no one gets out of here alive (paraphrased).

### - still trolling/gaslighting for attention then huh?

lol some things don't change :))))

can't change...

fyi: have been having a lovely holiday way down south, may even be moving
there permanently quite soon... no easily available internet there but
haven't really missed it, it's all bad news anyway lol

and is quite interesting really that london's still actually here?? heh,
but then have always been surprised just how long things typically take to
unfold in wallyworld - lol they's sooo slow even the end of the world
takes months & months to occur - but they's just about gettin' there even
so ;)

That was a monster, the Stones snatched some of the royalties
for using the orchestral splash in the beginning.
"Lucky Man" is a good piece of work.

Another country heard from.
Queen Elizabeth was one of a kind. RIP.
They're chasing Americans and American labs now for Covid origin.
Obama outlawed "gain of function" research so they off-shored it to Wuhan lab.

The order and safeguards.

The investigation push.

To many clinical psychopaths in politics these days on every side.

### - only these days?? lol jeremy nearly had a fit onetime when i
suggested ALL politicians were corrupt heh (surely not ALL of them!) -
only they are! or end up that way when they eventually realise there's
just no way to win anything in that world without dishing the dirt in one
form or another, to the point they end up looking down on the rest of
humanity, setting themselves apart and becoming a law unto themselves -
power corrupts!

changing the subject: discovered an interesting theory while on my
retreat, to do with the origins of life on this planet and the cambrian
explosion, also known as the biological big-bang...

i.e., it's thought that a totally stable single celled bacterial entity
existed on this planet for around a billion years or so until, suddenly,
there was a huge explosion of multi-cellular life forms, something changed
but they don't know why?

anyway, was watching some documentary about mars, about how it was, very
early on and around the same time, quite similar to this planet in that it
had standing water + more or less all the same ingredients for life, all
the same ingredients bar one that is...

the point being that it's known that rocks from mars have landed here,
some of them possibly containing fossilised bacteria... or even living
bacteria at the time... that something changed here after simply ages of
stability (a billion years of stability ffs!) and that perhaps what that
change here was was the introduction of a 'second' bacterial life form
that competed in some way with the first! thus a kind of biological
arms-race was suddenly set in motion; some cooperated others competed and
this resulted in ever-increasing complex forms! forms wherein predator,
prey & symbiosis has set the whole scene ever since!

dunno if it's true though... but perhaps could be traced genetically if
they knew where to look in our own genome... was a very
stimulating/exciting idea at the time with tons of startling implications
if true...

is a curious/novel idea anyway, might even be correct who knows :)
