Last night, TCM ran "Creature Features". I watched "The Creature From
the Black Lagoon" and "The Blob". I'm yet to watch "It Came From Beneath
the Sea" which I taped.
The movies took me back to being a scared little boy, hunkered down in
the Quonset hut that was the Cactus Theater of my childhood. It's still
the only theater in my hometown. Quonset huts last!
[ObFood] We scrounged various snacks for dinner. I should have popped
some Orville Redenbacher. Tonight will be two-day-old beef stew.

GMTA, leo! I mentioned those movies in another post. I didn't watch
"It Came From Beneath the Sea". I think they had "Godzilla" somewhere
later in that lineup. Is it just me or did Steve McQueen look too old
to be playing the cool teenager in 'The Blob'? (I cheated, looked it up.
Yeah, he was 28 in 1958. Maybe he flunked a few grades so he could
hang out with the cool kids and drive a cool car.)

Last night I made/ate broccoli/rice/cheese casserole. I've got
Mongolian beef slow cooking in the crockpot for dinner tonight. It
smells wonderful. Enjoy your beef stew! :)

Trivia time! The girl friend in "The Blob," Aneta Corsaut, was the girl friend and
elementary school teacher, Helen Crump, in "The Andy Griffith Show."

She certainly didn't look the same. Helen Crump was rather frumpy
looking on that show. More trivia: Andy Griffith's short-lived
girlfriend (before Helen Crump) was the pharmacist's niece, Elinor
Donahue from the TV series "Father Knows Best". :)

I don't think I get TMC, but I was watching the Dick Van Dyke show on
MeTV last evening. They usually run the Andy Griffith show earlier in
the evening.

Turner Classics (TCM) is fun. MeTV is good, so is Antenna TV. I do
also watch a lot of PBS and occasionally, HGTV (House Hunters). The
house hunter people are so silly, squabbling over the oddest things.
Oh, the bedroom isn't big enough. Really? It's big enough to fit a
king size bed with two night stands and a two dressers and has walk in
closets and you're complaining it's too small? Too small for what?!
It's amusing.

I watched "The Mist" on Syfy yesterday. That was a based on a creepy
Stephen King novella. Fairly well done with the special effects but the
movie did not end the same way his story did.

The other night I watched Jean Cocteau's "Orphée" (Orpheus), on TCM and it had
been several years since I'd seen it. Of course, it's his modern rendition of the Greek
mythology.

I haven't seen that in years. Their insane budgets and requests always
made me laugh. I didn't grow up poor, but for the few years we lived
with my step father in Pittsburgh, my brother, sister and I all shared a
small bedroom. A single dresser, and our three beds were touching side
to side... Had to crawl over the foot board to get into bed. The
people on that should would have had a conniption.

If that's the movie I'm thinking of, the ending was horrible. I was
upset, and wished that I hadn't watched it.

Well, it's television. Their expectations are almost always ridiculous
which is what makes it so amusing. Typical scenario: a young couple
moves to a very expensive area, generally because of work. They have a
budget of $150,000 and they want five bedrooms/4 bathrooms. They don't
cook but they have to have a huge gourmet kitchen with granite
countertops and brand new stainless appliances because they "entertain".
Also a big back yard with a pool. No fixer-uppers. Yeah, good luck
with that. LOL

It was a disturbing ending. The novella was open-ended. There was no
army coming to the rescue. They were just stuck sitting there in the
truck after they ran out of gas, surrounded by the mist, wondering what
the heck they were going to do.

Oh, we laughed our asses off. He screamed just as a tank was
rolling past. Alluding to Thomas Jane's role in "Hung", my
husband joked that the tank had just rolled over his dick.

Ben Mankiewicz did a short bio on him before the show started.
Apparently, his early life was no bed of roses. He certainly died way
too early.
Frankly, I had forgotten that "The Blob" was mostly a teen movie, but I
enjoyed it anyway.

Whoever this Elinor is, she's aging gracefully. She doesn't look like
a reconstituted dragon, like most older female celebrities.
