Maybe I spoke too soon ...

NOW it looks as if parts of Europe ARE gonna
get the kind of heat-wave that's been killing
lots of Americans this year.

A kinda-fixed pressure system is setting up
over north Africa and southern Europe just
like last year. This pumps super-hot African
air straight up into Italy, Spain, Greece
and even parts of France. It doesn't really
move - so it just gets hotter and hotter.

The southern/southwestern US has been suffering
a similar fate for the past few weeks and it
doesn't look like it's gonna change anytime soon.
We've seen news stories of hikers/campers in
Texas, including kids, DYING from heat. Real
temps have been near 100f, add in humidity and ...

Is it "GW" ? Well, not really. It's the new
El Nino - back after a number of years. It
affects airflow and pressure systems worldwide.
In the US, the jet stream has been pushed into
a weird "hump" which has encouraged a stagnant
high-pressure system, kinda centered on west
Texas. The Gulf Of Mexico waters have now
reached nearly 100f - exacerbating the humidity
factor. Florida has been hit almost every day
with tropical-storm volume rainstorms and points
further west are just COOKING.

Odd possible plus ... hurricanes kinda need
a temperature differential - hot below and
cooler above - but now it's ALL hot.

We will have to wait to see if the European
situation spreads. Last year the heat pushed
all the way up through - even the UK got
killer temperatures.
