Winter has finally hit South Carolina. No snow and certainly not low
temperatures comparable to much of North America but relatively
speaking, it's cold here.

Lentil soup is tasty and will hit the spot. I sauteed minced onion and
garlic in a medium size pot. Added the lentils and chicken broth and
some thawed loose leaf spinach as a green vegetable component. Lentils
take no time at all to cook. I'm baking a skillet of cornbread to go
with it.

Earlier this week, I made a big batch of orange lentil soup - a very
different recipe from yours, but just as tasty!

Mine used stock from a baked ham (and chunks of the ham), sweet onion,
celery, carrots, potatoes, and swede/rutabaga.
Served with toasted and buttered home baked whole wheat bread, and Irish
cheddar.

like beans they are very versatile. i like that they
cook at about the same rate as brown rice so they go well
together. plain rice doesn't do much for me while i can
eat lentils about any time at all. :)

too bad that Mom does not like them (but she is ok with
adzuki beans which are pretty similar in taste and texture).
just how different some people can be... :) :) :)

Lentil soup isn't a dinner, even with the nasty cornbread (prison
food).

You miss so much good food with your dogmatic attitudes.

Sorry, I missed this thread last, but dinner was a bowl of chicken, rice, mushroom
soup from my neighbor. There's just enough left for one more bowl tonight. She
makes hers stovetop and I make mine in the pressure cooker, but both are excellent.

A bowl of lentil soup (and many other types of soup) make a nice filling
evening meal and that's all I require to call it dinner. Do tell us
about your experience with lentil soup (or is it just the cornbread?) as
"prison food".

He wouldn't even notice a bowl of lentils rattling around in his hippo
size jaws. Than one requires a couple foot tall sandwiches or it ain't
dinner.

It was normal. I did put some dehydrated onions on the burger and smashed them in before flipping it but that was pretty much it. I love dehydrated onions.

You can't just say you ate that and not add ethnic origins. So the
bread is Vietnamese? The meat is Chinese? And the stuff leaking out is
Filipino mango sauce?

What you post here whether out to eat or home cooked is some of the
best IMO. Asian style, Mexican style... I'm in.

Dinner tonight was Hawaiian food. The thing about Hawaiian food is that the range of dishes are limited. The food was from the mall and we're fortunate to have a place that serves pretty good food. We had a laulau, lomi lomi salmon, poi, squid luau, and haupia. These are Hawaiian dishes that are pretty much required at a luau. I wish there were more items in Hawaiian cooking but there aren't. I don't know why that is. The poi was quite a treat. It was smooth and cool with a slight prickling on the tongue - probably from carbon dioxide in the poi.
