Russia conducted maneuvers of its strategic nuclear forces “Grom”
(Thunder), which were presided over by videoconference by Russian
President Vladimir Putin.

During the exercises, the first since the start of the Russian military
campaign in Ukraine in February, a drill of a “massive nuclear launch by
strategic offensive forces in response to an enemy nuclear attack” was
conducted, Russian Defense Minister Sergey Shoigu said.

Shoigu, who addressed Putin as “comrade” and commander-in-chief of the
Armed Forces, briefed the president on the progress of the maneuvers,
which lasted only a few minutes.

Russian strategic forces launched ballistic and cruise missiles from the
Tula atomic submarine, two Tu-95MC strategic bombers, and Yars land-based
mobile intercontinental ground-launched missile systems, which were fired
from the Plesetsk Cosmodrome.

Sineva ballistic missiles were also launched from the Barents Sea in the
northern European part of Russia to the Kura range on the Kamchatka
peninsula, which is bathed by the Pacific Ocean.

“The planned targets during the exercises of the strategic containment
forces have been fully met. All missiles hit their targets,” the Kremlin
said in a statement.

The “Grom” exercises are aimed at testing the level of readiness of the
command centers of the nuclear forces, he said.

As reported Tuesday by the Pentagon, Russia informed the US of its plans,
which coincide with NATO’s Steadfast Noon nuclear exercises, held every
year for the past decade.

This was stated in press statements by US Department of Defense spokesman
General Pat Ryder, who explained that “Russia is fulfilling its arms
control obligations and transparency commitments with these notifications”.

Five days before the start of the “special military operation,” Putin
presided over exercises of nuclear forces using hypersonic weaponry, which
the Kremlin considers capable of circumventing any missile shield.

In addition, on February 27 the head of the Kremlin put its nuclear
deterrent forces on alert, triggering concerns in Ukraine and the West
about the possible use of nuclear weapons.

After offering the West a moratorium on missile deployment in Europe, the
Kremlin warned that if the U.S. deployed offensive weaponry on the
continent, Russia would target its missiles at American territory.

Recently, Putin warned that Russia will use the entire arsenal in its
power to defend its territorial integrity and that of the four annexed
Ukrainian regions – Donetsk, Lugansk, Kherson, and Zaporiyia.

### - what this means is that, at a time of heightened military tension as
ukraine prepares to make a worrying assault upon the strategic + annexed
city of Kherson, BOTH nato AND russia are BOTH holding nuclear war
maneuvers/rehearsals??

ffs! i mean, you'd imagine they'd possibly 'postpone' such particularly
provocative maneuvers in-light of the current tensions, but nooo... let's
just ratchet the whole thing up by several notches more and see what

most people in the uk aren't even aware of it more than so, preoccupied as
they all currently are with steeply rising costs, an economy in chaos and
yet further elections at home etc (our 3rd prime minister in only 7 weeks
lol) the ongoing war in ukraine seeming like mere background noise
compared to millions suddenly not being able to adequately heat their
homes & pay their mortgages!

so much so if anything happens they/we wont even see it coming!?
