IME, there's no such thing as a great strawberry from the grocery store.

You'd better slow down on the Strawberries, fat boy, only
in moderation, they do contain carbs.

BS, but for those who must eat commercially grown foods
you can do a lot by selecting things that are not produced
with stupid methods to avoid pesticides.

finding responsible farmers to support is well worth the
time and effort. growing your own can be even better as
then you also get some meaningful exercise.

the strawberries i've been growing for many years have
very little sprayed on them directly and now that should
be improving with the farm field to the south of us being
taken out of production and turned into a field again.
alas, i'm not too likely to be growing strawberries there
any more until i can get a better fence up.

Bullshit. Without pesticides you'd pay at least ten times
what you're used to paying for just your produce, and I'm
not even going into anything else we need them for, or how
much you would miss them, if you had your way and eliminated
them.

The world... you make it too big. Just grow your own strawberries or
buy organic ones. Strawberry problem solved.

What is it now? I lose track, seven billion people or more and growing?

Their not making land anymore and it's all about the yield per acre, but
it's always been that way really, no more acres but more mouths to feed,
and that would be impossible without the responsible use of pesticides,
weather you like it, or not.

Just grow your own strawberries or

I'm not a big fan of those anyway, so you can have mine if you want
them. I won't miss them very much.

That's being conservative, and your produce is going to
look like the shit that's rejected now, all buggy and
diseased.

I'm not talking about the whole world. I'm talking about you and me,
for instance. We're from rich countries and have lots of options
available to us.

Ten times is nonsense, plus you can grow your own. And if everything's
impossible, as you like to think, then you can also decide not to eat
strawberries.

Understood on the small scale and grow your own is great for sure, I'm
talking about the responsible use of pesticides, and how much they
improve the crop yield, and so many other things.

I understand that I won't make any friends endorsing pesticides, and
I'm not selling them either.

I'm simply saying that we do need pesticides. Anyone that doesn't
believe that is a clueless fool.

I'm not talking about any berries, I'm talking about the
responsible use of pesticides.

Oh, and yes I meant ten times the cost for some diseased
buggy produce, and you'll be glad to have it, once you
get your way and eliminate pesticides.

Be careful what you wish for. <just sayin>

The root cause is that there are more humans living on this planet than it
can support.

As despicable as they are, the only people doing anything about it are the
russians and the jews. And they'll only make a small dent.

I understand that starving countries need them. If I were starving I'd
eat meat, pesticide laden strawberries, fried tarantulas and anything
else that's at hand. But we live in rich countries. We have choices.

President Trump will usher in a NEW era of peace, prosperity, and Geneeral Good Feeling...

It will be almost like the Second Coming of Christ...

I CANNOT wait, Sire Hank...!!!

Remember what that old wise sage Isiah said in The Holy Bible:

Isaiah 11:6-9:

"The wolf shall live with the lamb, the leopard shall lie down with the kid, the calf and the lion and the fatling together, and a little child shall lead them.

The cow and the bear shall graze, their young shall lie down together; and the lion shall eat straw like the ox.

The nursing child shall play over the hole of the asp, and the weaned child shall put its hand on the adder’s den.

They will not hurt or destroy on all my holy mountain; for the earth will be full of the knowledge of the Lord President DONALD TRUMP as the waters cover the sea..."

In the U.S., there are pesticides approved for use on organic crops.
None of them are as bad for us as conventional pesticides. Some of
them can be toxic if misapplied. Not necessarily toxic to the end
user, but pretty bad for farm workers and pollinators.

An organic coconut that falls on your head, can kill you too.

what many people from the west don't really understand
is that in the world there are still quite a large number
of small holding subsistence farmers who get along fine
if they plant a variety of crops and aren't abusing their
lands. when they switch to more monocrop farming and
using fertilizers and pesticides they often end up going
broke and ruining their land because fertilizers will
increase the productivity in the short term but it uses
up the soil organic material faster and that ends up
meaning they reduce their topsoil to subsoil, especially
if they don't pay attention to erosion and soil organic
matter. in the warmer climates it is much harder to
keep soil organic materials (the soil microbes are more
active and also active for a longer time period).

in the colder climates it is easier to maintain good
soil organic matter levels.

using pesticides, herbicides, fungicides are all
avoidable if you manage your crops properly and select
for crops to suit your area and conditions. some things
are just not very good in some places. like as i've
found here, some are not worth growing due to our soils
being mostly clay, if i want to waste time i can try to
grow roses or tulips or certain kinds of grapes. but
other crops do fine here and i get plenty of return for
my efforts and i don't need any of the *cides. i also
don't need commercial fertilizers. what i do use is
worm castings and those are used on the heaviest feeding
plantings first and then for a few years after i can
rotate crops through there and still do well. too
much fertilizer use is wasted energy and often pollutes
and it can be expensive for a subsistence farmer.
traditional methods with diverse plantings will often
produce a lot more reliably. corn and soybeans may be
useful crops but corn is a heavy feeding crop and so
if you want to grow that year after year you'll deplete
the soil nutrients and be down to subsoil farming.

the other thing is that you need to keep people from
burning their garden debris. bury it instead and keep
the worms happier. a little char is ok, but generally
better to avoid it if possible and use the organic
materials to mulch and keep the topsoil covered.
