Checking out the Kroger ad I see they have their house brand of butter
on sale for $2.29 per pound with shoppers card and a minimum of three
pounds purchased in one transaction. Choice of salted or unsalted.
There were other items in this buy at least three, mix or match, and
a savings of $2 off each item.

Checking out the Aldi ad I see they have their house brand of butter
on sale for $3.29 per pound. That's a bit surprising as *usually*
they will beat Kroger's holiday pricing on items such as this.

Two weeks ago both Kroger and Aldi had butter on sale, Land O'Lakes
for $2.99 per pound and again Aldi brand for $3.29. At that time I
got 5 pounds of LOL and I'll be making room somewhere in my freezer
to take advantage of this $2.29 sale as well.

Did you start laughing halfway that sentence?

That is a good price. Publix has Land O Lakes on BOGO so the $6.99 is
$3.50. Last week it was Kerrygold but a half pound was $4.59, a decent
but not cheap price for the pound.

I have three pounds of salted butter plus a tub of Kerrygold in the
freezer. That's likely the most butter I've ever had on hand all at
once. :)

Back in the fall I picked up 3 or 4 lb of butter on sale and used it for
Christmas baking. It takes just short of a pound for each batch of light
fruit cake and almost a pound to make two batches of shortbread.

If I did a lot of baking I'd likely use a lot more butter. I do plan to
pan-sear some sea scallops in butter, it doesn't take much.

No, that laughing will start when I get home and put the butter in

Does Bruce not know 'LOL' in this instance means "Land O'Lakes' brand
butter?

I perused the Publix weekly ad and saw they had Plugra on a BOGO at
$4.65 but that's for half a pound. I've never tried Plugra but it
doesn't sound like a great deal to me.

Four sticks (a pound) of Land O' Lakes butter is $3.45. Publix brand is
$2.29. I know which one I'd buy. :)

In the next few days, I'm going to bake a cake. The recipe comes from
my mother-in-law going back about 60 years. It is sort of like a pound
cake and has been my favorite. It is baked in a tube pan and too much
for just one person. Today, it struck me, why not bake it, cut it up
and freeze?

I have to get some baking powder and milk, then drag out the KA mixer.

I knew it. It sounds so close to sour.

Or you could mail that cake to me and save your freezer space. 😁

If I pick up an additional 5 pounds that would save me $10 or more if
I buy more than 5 pounds. Butter will keep indefinitely if kept frozen.
Most likely no more 'butter sales' until the fall and the holidays start,
too.

Aren't Hobarts usually bolted to the floor? The one we had in the
professional kitchen the building I formerly worked in was quite
large and bolted down. The bowl was around 10-15 gallons.

Going way back, Hobart did make Kitchen Aid but like all corporations,
break up and sell off

When did Hobart stop making KitchenAid?
The former KitchenAid division was formed in 1919. In 1934, Hobart
bought the Dayton Scale Company (an IBM division) from IBM. Dart & Kraft
acquired Hobart in 1981. KitchenAid was sold to Whirlpool Corporation in
1986 after the consummation of a $150 million purchase offer proposed in
January 1985.

Hobart used to make the KitchenAid mixers.
My mother-in-law gave me a Hobart-made 4.5 qt KA mixer for Xmas, many
years ago. My daughter has it now, and it still works perfectly.
Newer KAs are no longer manufactured by Hobart.
