I asked Don to defrost something from the chest freezer. Encased in a
vaccumn seal bag was a ufo. Dated Dec 2021. (still fine due to heavy
commervcial grade bags we use). As it defrosts it seems 2 1/2 lbs
spiril ham.

It's still partly frozen so building a ham stew around it. There's a
good ham bone in there that we plan to see if we can scrape free.

What I'm thinking of is yukon potatoes, potatoes, omions, carrots,
maybe 2 turnips, 2-3 cups cabbage, handful of split peas, diced
tpmatoes with juice, pho cube.

I don't want to make another bean pot and I don't want full on split
pea.

Whatcha all think?

It sounds good to me. Some might want to add corn, but for myself,
I'd omit it.

I think spiral sliced ham makes good sandwiches . Which is what we
had for lunch , honey glazed SS ham .

Got bacon defrosted for breakfast for dinner .

I hope you enjoy it. Me, I'd keep it simple and make ham and navy bean
soup.

Yes but we do that very often.

I turned out for once I was out of carrots! Charlotte likes them too
so suspect she used them up. Don asked to skip the cabbage and I ran
out of room! I got 1 onion and 2 Yukon's in there plus 8oz mushrooms,
chicken broth and a ham pho cube in.

We'll eat it down a little then add the diced tomatoes if it seems
right. It's got a really good broth developing. I just shifted it to
high.

Someone who's almost a vegetarian, but makes ham and navy bean soup
very often.

Happy to say even though adapted, it was great and joins the occasional
remake set here. Don says it's a bit like his German grandmother's
cooking.

It doesn't sound much like pho either: no beef bones and warming spices in
cheese cloth. I bet you added those potatoes and cabbage for a soup that
bubbled, squeaked and hammed it up.

LOL! Pho, a dish from Vietnam with a deep flavorful bone broth. The
cubes I use are just the seasoning spices traditionally used in Pho. I
find it useful in many a crockpot recipe.

I had to use my common understanding of colors in Asia where
yellow=poultry, red=beef and blue=pork. If it's wrong, oh well!
Worked well with ham and works with dry beans!

Carol (also xxcarol in Fidonet).

It's not pho. Just a seasoning cube used in it that I like. I tried
making Pho but got the wrong bones and didn't lnow to remove the
marrow. Oh well!

(took a break to setup the chicken and shape the bread, 45 minutes to
remove bread and bring oven to temp.)
