The U.S. is reportedly planning to relocate nuclear weapons
to the U.K. for the first time in nearly two decades to counter
the threat of Russian aggression engulfing the European
continent.

The Telegraph reported that it gained access to sensitive
Pentagon documents that said the U.S. has “procurement
contracts for a new facility at RAF Lakenheath in Suffolk”
that confirms the U.S. “intends to place nuclear warheads
three times the strength of the Hiroshima bomb at the air
base.”

The U.S. stored nuclear weapons at RAF Lakenheath during the
Cold War. The base is now expected to carry B61-12 nuclear
gravity bombs, which are more than three times more powerful
than the nuclear bomb dropped on Hiroshima. The bombs are
small and can be delivered by F-16s, F-15s, and F-35s.

1950s all over again.

But, are gravity bombs "modern tech" ? More like
1950s as well. 50kt will do a lot of damage, but
to whom, where, why ? Does this model rely on a
manned aircraft, or can a drone carry them ?
Something quicker ? Putin's hypersonics can deliver
at least as much, and it'll be there a LOT faster
and stealthier.

So, is this all for "appearances" ???

We really CAN'T have a nuclear war, it'd boil over
almost immediately and poison most or all of the
planet. It's why they're called "Doomsday" weapons.
OTOH, you have to look READY to cause Doomsday if
the other guy is. It's why they call it "M.A.D."

So what, the UK doesn’t have enough nukes of its own? Not enough
destructive power to obliterate enough cities? Too small a megadeath score
to be considered a serious deterrent?
