How did you celebrate? I watched TV, such as a special edition of the talk show "Somos Portugal" (English: We are Portugal) which otherwirse are on Sunday and, this time, beyond the presenters and singers, had four different reporters, one in the North, one in the Center and South, one in the Azores and one in Madeira, visiting people who asked the show.

Another thing that aired on TVI, the TV channel I watch, at night, beyond midnight, ending shortly before 1 AM, was the Big Brother finale gala, which was won by Ana Barbosa, the only woman among the finalists. Of course, the morning talk show "Dois às 10" was dedicated to New Year. During this week, both that show and the afternoon one "Goucha" reviewed things they aired during the year.

I also watched fireworks on TV though both Lisbon and Porto canceled them.
Today, a home changing show called Queido Mudei a Casa (Dear, I changed the house) had a special New Year edition. Saturday afternoon show "Conta-me" (Tell Me) showed parts of the interviews of 2021. Currently, "Em Família) (In Family) is having a New Year editio, too.

To summarize my Christmas and New Year programming:

I have watched TVI from waking up to going to sleep recently.

On Christmas' Eve, both the morning talk show Two at Ten and the afternoon talk show Goucha had Christmas themed editions. As I previously, mentioned, António Costa and his wife Fernanda Tadeu discussed their Christmas traditions on Two at Ten. They had already had Christmas spirit for days, though. Cristina ComVida, another afternoon talk show, had a special episode but not Christmas themed in the same way. The soap opera Party is Party had the Christmas' Eve dinner (consoada) episode. Then, Manuel Luís Goucha, one of the presenters of Big Brother 2021, went to the house and visited the candidates until shortly after midnight. Then, we had the movie Son of God as Portuguese actor Diogo Morgado played Jesus on that movie.

On Christmas Day, Dear I Changed the House (a home changing show) had a special episode but I only woke up in time for the very end of the show. Right after the 1PM news, there was the Tell Me interview with Rodrigo Paganelli by Goucha but it wasn't Christmas themed. Those interviews are recorded. Then In Family had a Christmas edition but it ended earlier than usual because of a broadcasf of the Tony Carreira concert on 27 November. It was beaten by Alone at Home 2 at SIC, with it being the 23rd straight Christmas with one of the two movies airing in Portugal. The 8 PM news had a recorded scene of the presenter leave home at the beginning and reporters broadcasted from their own houses. One of them was infected, IIRC. The Party is Party soap opera had the first nativity scene episode and was set on the day. Then, the movie A Consoada, with the premise of snowfall on Lisbon in Christmas' Eve diverting flights to Beja. Meanwhile, on TVI Reality, Cláudio Ramos, the other presenter, went to the Big Brother house but I didn't watch it as I don't have that channel.

On 26 December, We are Portugal, the Sunday afternoon talk shown which is set on parties had an edition on Wonderland Lisboa, a Christmas season attraction between 1 December and 2 January, where they had already been on 3 December, which still had one or two Chrismas songs. They handed the last Benecar car of the month. As it was December, they handed one car on each Sunday rather than only one on the final Sunday. The 8PM broadcast included the Legends and Mysteries Chrismas special, which talked about the Devil tradition of someone disguising as the Devil, wandering around the streets and being chased by others..

On 27 December, Two at Ten showed the Chrismas Lottery. I don't understand why it only aired that day. Party is Party had the second nativity scene episode. In the show, it still was Chrismas Day and there was the photo.

On 28 December, Party is Party episode was still set on Christmas Day but Tomé was already talking about Carnival.

Throghout this last week of the year, Two at Ten and Goucha reviewed much of what they aired in 2021, the first year of both shows. Two at Ten reviewed in the criminal section certain crimes that happened. On Monday, Goucha reviewed an interview with Rui Pedro's mother on 4 March, 23 years after his disappearance.

On Wednedsday, Goucha reviewed an interview with actor Pedro Lima's widow on 14 September. He committed suicide on 20 June 2020.

I should note Goucha doesn't consider what he does interviews. He considers it talks. He noted how it was the second hardest one in his career, less only than the one with Tony Carreira, the first after his daughter died.

In addition, both shows showed astrological predictions.

On Thursday, Goucha and CristinaComVida ad the last shows of 2011 and on Party is Party, Tomé reminded people of a New Year marathon that was a forgotten tradition three.

On Friday, New Year's Eve, Two at Ten had the last show of 2021. Following the 1 PM news broadcast, there was a special edition of We Are Portugal with the presenters in Wonderland Lisboa but one reporter in the North, one in the Center and South, one in the Azores and one in Madeira. Following the 8 PM news broadcast, we had the Big Brother finale until beyond midnight, with Ana Barbosa only then being announced as winner.

On Saturday, New Year Day, Dear I Changed the House had a New Year edition, and In Family too. Party is Party had the preparation for the marathon and ended as the marathon started. Then, the Tony Carreira concert was aired again and, right before I finished writing, a Mental Samurai special with TVI figures, the last one being a masked Rita Pereira.
Yesterday, Party is Party had the New Year run with lots of twists ending with São and Aida winning.

What about yours?

I'm exhausted and angry, frankly. We really didn't celebrate the New Year as there really isn't much to celebrate here. 2021 has taken so much from us personally with losses to family and pets and on top of it we can't go off somewhere for a holiday with this virus as both my wife and I have health issues. So we don't go out, basically... it just never felt like holidays worth celebrating. :(

If it was a normal year, we would have gotten some sparkling apple cider and celebrated that way but nothing special. We watch our own series TV like Dexter: New Blood, Cobra Kai, Goliath and other streaming media creations and of course American football, which we love and is on pretty much every day during the holidays. My team, the Buffalo Bills, has already guaranteed a postseason spot while her team, the Indianapolis Colts, are very close to the same position.

Sorry I didn't read your response earlier but I have Asperger's and I have remained hyper focused on this Devereux line. :(

Darrell

We really didn't celebrate the New Year as there really isn't much to celebrate here. 2021 has taken so much from us personally with losses to family and pets and on top of it we can't go off somewhere for a holiday with this virus as both my wife and I have health issues. In case you don't know, I am Asperger's, too
I should note António Costa said that in Christmas 2020, as he was isolated, he pretended it wasn't Christmas and ordered Italian food. He noted the Christmas king at their house was turkey, not codfish. His favorite Christmas desserts are egg ones. His wife Fernanda Tadeu said hers were sonhos.
On New Year, we toasted at midnight.
What about your Christmas? I dinned with my family on Christmas' Eve and lunched with them on Christmas Day.

So you understand then! Ahh, perfect.

We were all ready to go over to my father-in-law's house for Christmas but then of course in fine 2021 fashion some callous driver drove through our street speeding and killed one of our cats and we saw the whole thing and he just drove off as if nothing happened, and the police said there was nothing they could do of course.... so then after my father-in-law ended up getting sick and he decided rightfully just to cancel. Therefore, we had all of this food and it was just us two and our cats. It was a typical ending to 2021 and we really didn't feel like having the Christmas lights on or the tree. We just wanted to forget the rest of this year and just move on so we just had a normal dinner and hope that this year is better. So to me working on my research is far better than thinking about the previous year for sure...
