I saw some burn ends the other day in the freezer case and I was
tempted but I didn't buy it. Usually that prepackaged stuff is pretty
bad.
I really prefer pork shoulder to brisket anyway. That is too easy to
cook than to pay for someone else to do it. The dog and I really enjoy
it tho.

Its a shame we don't have a COSTCO around here. IGA, save a lot and walmart is it for us, that is if we want to drive 100 mi.

Come on down. It is warm and sunny. I have 3 Publix stores within a

We have a military Publix store about a 12 minute walk from home.
Also have two Costco stores a short drive away.

Brisket has become more expensive than good cuts of meat. I do a lot of
pork shoulders. Get on sale, either crockpot or Treager. Looking for a
boneless sale now, as want to do some Al Pastor on the Treager.

Our Costco sells the pork belly which I've used once for burnt ends.
Fantastic on the Traeger.

Our local Giant often puts the fresh picnic hams on sale for $.99/lb.
They work well for pulled pork. I always remove all the rind. They're
not as fatty as the shoulder, but have great flavor.

I usually buy the butts when they are on sale ($1.99). If you look at
them you can usually find one with a small bone it them that pulls
right out. A picnic has a fist size bone in it and all that rind so 99
cents isn't that cheap.

That is probably still going to be crab bait here but I am trying to
remember how my dad cooked a "fresh ham" as he called it. I think he
cooked in the oven, rind up for a while, then peeled the rind off to
finish it. I just remember that fat cap with a bit of color in it
over some real juicy meat.

As I'm using it for pulled pork (or roast pork), I cut the skin off
first just so the smoke and rub can get to the meat.
