The difference is that the US government didn't sign a 50 year agreement of non-interference.

China promise high degree of autonomy within the framework 1C2S, not freedom to incite and/or
commit treason.

Beijing started the problems by breaking the agreement. They insisted on bullying HK.

In case you don't already know, China's National Congress has the final authority on interpreting the Basic Laws.
Foreign opinions are totally irrelevant.
What if Globaltimes comes up with an article criticizing US Justice Department for not protecting GOP Rep. Mo Brooks
from lawsuits? Justified? Relevant?

To the extent that an issue is an issue, each side would consider its side rational, backward reasoning or whatever. Don't believe
me? Feel free to ask GOP Rep. Mo Brooks whether he request was rational. Or guess what his answer would be.

This is exactly why human rights and related issues, in the absence of objective, substantiatied, and strong evidence, are
straightly internal issues.

Could you quote the relevant parts of the agreement *directly* ?
I am sure PRC can hire professional+ lawyers capable of interpreting
the agreement almost like PRC wants. I do expect quite different
(conflicting) interpretations. IMHO There is a long way from autonomy
to sovereignty.

Laws/agreements (always) simple to interpret would make lawyers poor :-)
IMHO Choices PRC have made in HK will not help TW reunification.
