Magic city plywood has it. We are looking for 1/4" and 1/8" for our laser engraving biz. Know anywhere?

I would think to contact ANY local hardwood or lumberyard.

I buy it several sources in Houston, TX. It is not uncommon.

I've never seen it anywhere except Woodcraft and Rockler (damned
expensive stuff). All we have for lumberyards are the BORGs and
blue-boxes. I still have to visit the hardwood dealers. They're only
open during normal business hours so it's difficult to get there.

But the floor is dropping out of lumber prices again. $3.25 for 2x4s
at the BORG Saturday. They were $7.50ish just a couple of months ago.
Glad I wasn't speculating on them then.

The 1/2" Doug Fir MDO plywood I bought at Lowes a few months ago has
dropped from $79 to $71 (or $73 or $66, depending on location). If I go back
to the same store, it would be $71, but they are out of stock.

However, according to the first image, the size has increased from 4' x 8' to
7.989' x 8' so I guess it's a good deal. Just not sure how I'm going to get it
home. ;-)

(I sent lowes.com a message, so maybe that will be changed soon)

Those that place the ads and or information on the web site probably
know diddly about lumber sizing.

Nor do the people on the other end of the chat session.

When I sent the chat rep the link and explained the error, the first response
back was "What is your zip code?"

I told him that he doesn't need my zip code. "The image with the incorrect
information is on lowes.com. Did you try the link that I sent you?"

The next response: He sent me back the link that I sent him! No words,
just the link.

Geeeez, why does this have to be so hard!

So I asked him "Why are you sending me the link that I just sent to
you? What do you expect me to do with it?"

Next response: "Please give a minute."

Next response: "Thank you for your feedback."

Chat session ends.

It was such a satisfying experience. ;-)

I don't think pay has anything to do with it. An idiot gets paid too
much regardless of how much he is making.

Actually, it is quite likely that he _did_ need your zip code; both
Lowes and Home depot will display content based on zip code (either
explicitly provided by the user or by geolocating the browser IP address).

Particularly, the pricing will differ based on the zip code, as
will availability of the item.

I've notived Home Depot doing that. They typically think I want to got
to the store that's about 4th furthest away from me, instead of one of
the two local ones. I use the Lowes website less (because the local
store is closer than any Home Depot, so I'm more likely to just drive
there and look).

It also would not surprise me if certain items are not available at all
in certain areas. For me, California regulations may make them want to
hide items they can't or won't want to sell in this state. I know there
are a lot of portable generators which other websites will have notes
declaring "Not for sale in California."

For lumber I can imagine distribution is regional and the selection
and prices may vary a lot between Alabama and where ever the call
center is located.

He did not. You do not. Try the link. Put in any zip you'd like. It's the
*image* that is incorrect.

Yes, the pricing will differ. The availability will differ. The image will not.
Try the link.

Ah. I missed that part. I expect no one at Lowes really cares if all of
the images are right. That's a hard task when there are so many images
to manage. Face it, web sites really suck for some sorts of purchases.

> (As of the time of this posting, it has not been fixed)

I don't know what it should look like. I see a picture of a piece of
plywood. That's about what I'd expect for a listing for a piece of
plywood, even it it is a special type.

I just tell them the zip code for the store I want to shop in. If
it's not in stock there, they'll tell me where it is, anyway.

HD's call center is in AL? That would be weird. I'd think it would
be in GA (Atlanta corporate headquarters), IN(dia), or PA(kistan).

You get what you pay for (in theory, anyway).

There are signs in almost every store, restaurant, and littering the
highway around here. I tell my wife that they just aren't paying
enough or are shit employers. The restaurant we go for Sunday brunch
hires all the time (mostly kids for bussing or as runners) but never
has a problem with having enough wait staff on the floor. He treats
his people right. The place is full => tips are good => service is
good => place is full. The owner doesn't screw with success.

I'm assuming you are seeing a piece of plywood with some text
superimposed on it. It's the text that is the issue.

Read the superimposed dimensions carefully, compare them
to the dimensions shown under the price and I'm sure you'll
be able to figure out what it should look like.

You'll also understand why I said "Just not sure how I'm going
to get it home." ;-)

In this example IIRC the named 1/2x 4x8 sheet is described with near
square dimensions.

Imagine trying to haul an 8'x8' sheet of plywood! LOL

5'x5' Baltic birch is at the extreme of my limits for handling.

You may be in a unique location. In Texas, restaurants are offering
"signing" bonuses to get staff to come back to work. So I doubt the pay
is an issue, at least here.
My nephew, 7 years my junior, is one of those free loaders. He took out
a government loan to restart a landscape business early last year and he
bought a trailer. That trailer is at his parents house and has not been
used for earning money. His parents house is in another state.

Until the stimulus checks and unemployment checks stop going out people
are not eager to go back to work.
