it took me a few hours to realize that the original exchange was in Russian.

i think this ( Double Switcheroo ) is pretty common in real life (and in movie dialogue)

in the USA, we usu. say Bolsa(s) , Bag(s)

¿Necesitas una bolsa? ( necesitas un saco ?)
Do you need a bag ?

Indeed.

`Packet' smelled wrong to me, but a dictionary shut my
eyes (and nose) upon the suspicion, because (among
other reasons) we use `packet' in Russian, reserving
`bag' for the more substantial container: made of fab-
ric, having strong handles, and lasting from months to
years.
