That is currently the topic of an extended discussion in the Letters
page of my local newspaper. The conclusion so far seems to be

woke = left-wing
asleep at the wheel = right-wing

(But the right-wing contributors wouldn't agree with that. For them,
"woke" means communist atheist.)

Around here most people seem to use it to mean "confused about sex and
gender distinctions".

Somnolence, on the other hand, gives clarity.
