For nearly 40 years, i can't remember
which is De re and which is De dicto --------- can you help me???

>>> The de re / de dicto distinction describes the interaction of intensional operators and noun phrases in a sentence. The classic example ‘I want a sloop’ due to Quine (1956) contrasts two readings:
a desire for a particular sloop (de re) and
‘relief from slooplessness’ (de dicto).

>>> A sloop is a sailboat with a single mast typically having only one headsail in front of the mast and one mainsail aft of (behind) the mast. Such an arrangement is called a fore-and-aft rig, and can be rigged as a Bermuda rig with triangular sails fore and aft, or as a gaff …

------- Huh!!!! a [sloop] is a new word for me.

i want a drink (de re) -------- i have a particular drink (THING) in mind.

i want a drink (de dicto) --- i only mean The WORD drink (and nothing more) --- so pretty much ANY drink would do.

"Sloop John B" always makes me think of a night out with Ernest Hemingway.
You can always tell a Beach Boys number; you can hear waves breaking on
a seashore.
Similarly in most country-and-western songs, you can hear the clip-clop
of horses' hooves.
This is the archetypal c&w song;

This one makes me wonder whether cowboys loved horses better than women;
https://youtu.be/S9ZbuIRPwFg
I don't hear horses hooves; I hear poor cowboys from farms hurled into
the razzamatazz of modern city life.
Modern America arose from the Civil War, wherein tens of thousands of
farm-raised boys were dragged out of Eden into the hell of warfare;
cannon fodder.
